PvE servers or PvE/PvP zones

  • I'd love to see PvE servers or PvP/PvE zones. Often times the PvP ruins the game for me and makes me want to quit the game. But I absolutely love the tall tales, sea monsters, treasure hunts, fishing, skeleton forts, etc. Game Devs please make this a thing somehow (: My friends and I would love it!

Thanks for reading! Any comments or ideas on this? Let me know!

  • As far as the zones are concerned I think making the forts and surrounding area/outposts PvE. You can't be killed or fight other players here. If you want to PvP then you can go into open waters or to specially marked PvP forts and outposts. Maybe a balancing thing would be that PvP forts have more loot or something. Ideas on that?

  • Sounds a interesting idea think having different servers like ark would be a good idea so you can choose how you wanna play the more options the better I think

  • @ghost-patton
If you don't like pvp, you're only enjoying half the game. Also, this has been discussed to death.
Rare doesn't want safe zones anywhere. Imagine the real griefing happening there, or people just grabbing your loot and walking off.
PvE servers are never coming, but private servers are. They won't have progression, and hopefully not tall tales. This is so adventure keeps a balance between pvp and pve, because with full progression private servers, adventure would become mostly pvp.

  • @Ghost-Patton @TAK225

I write this for the second time today....

You guys are playing Sea of Thieves, not Sea of Minding-my-own-business.

The very point of the game is to be PIRATES - ruthless sea dogs who do whatever they want. They kill and plunder, and they get killed and plundered. Yes, world exploration and adventures are also a part of the pirates' lives, but they are also aggressive towards friendly and unfriendly ships.

I believe Rare have done an absolutely splendid job in recreating the essence of piracy within their game.

  • @ghost-patton so you want to make The Places that draw everyone in with a huge skull cloud over it pve??? This might be the most ignorant (pardon my french) pve post ever, and i have seen ALOT of them.

Forts are the quintessential places for pvp, in regards to safe zones rare has always stated NO safe zones.

It is a PVEVP or PVPVE game and the stance of the devs can be simply read in the code of conduct:

Be a good sport. Sea of Thieves is a pirate game, and stealth, stealing and battles are all part of the fun. All pirates on the seas accept that, but be a good sportsman in both victory and loss.

    Source: https://www.seaofthieves.com/code-of-conduct

  • This was actually tested, and discussed to death. Nothing we hear will be new or add to the discussion.

  • @ghost-patton

PvE servers would funnel certain types of players out of the main world and into a PvE server, reducing player variety left in the "PvP-enabled" severs - this goes against the Sea of Thieves vision where you can encounter any type of player in the shared world and overall makes the game more predictable - PvP enabled servers would be full of empty ships fighting eachother, PvE servers would be full of people just farming. An overall boring and watered down experience on both fronts.

To add to that, epic loot heists would be a thing of the past as anyone with loot to steal will be in the PvE server where it can't be stolen. This would again go against what Rare are trying to do with the game. The Alliance mechanic would need to be removed too, as the players left in a "PvP" server would never use it, and it would serve no purpose in a PvE server.

Safe zones are just bad because they limit what players can do when they encounter one another, and it's not fun or interesting for someone I'm pursuing who has loot to go and put themselves in a safe zone.

Anything that limits how players can behave with each other is a bad idea for this game, meaning PvE servers and safe zones will forever be a bad idea for Sea of Thieves.

  • @chronodusk people want different things give them options alot of games do and pull it off fine think sea of thieves could aswell

  • @tak225 So your saying because some people want something or want to play the game in ways not intended they have a right to stamp and shout about implementing it?

  • there are plenty of pirate games on the market that are strictly pve. please go play there rather than try to change this game to match your criteria.

  • @tak225 So because you don't know the definition of a thief and didn't read the description of the game when you bought it they should change the game for you? Can the fortnite developers make a turn based mode so its fun :P

  • @tak225 said in PvE servers or PvE/PvP zones:

Sounds a interesting idea think having different servers like ark would be a good idea

Why. Why do people keep using that game as an example for PvE arguments? It's DEAD because of the way they handle their servers. I would know.

"Wipe the official servers and disable transferring? nah, lets make a season pass with MORE paid DLC instead!"

  • @tak225

    "People want different things"

Yeah but that doesn't mean that Sea of Thieves should accommodate what everyone wants - especially if those suggestions just don't fit into the design of the game.

You can't expect the game to appeal to everyone, and trying to do so would be a fools errand. They should stick with making Sea of Thieves better at what it currently does, and entertaining the people who already like Sea of Thieves for it's core concept.

This game cannot pull off PvE servers or safe zones, it would be completely ruined.

  • @ghost-patton you can PvE in the entire world, you can PvP in the entire world. No safe zones has been a key concept of the game and is not something they should change.

Want to play PvE only, that is possible the tools are in the game. Pay attention, avoid others at all costs and you will never have to deal with another pirate in PvP.

It isn't for the world to adapt to your playstyle, it is you to adapt your playstyle to the world. This is an open world multiplayer where we share the seas. Be your own pirate and achieve your own goals, #BeMorePirate, whether you flee or hunt... may the wind be in your sails.

  • Wrong game mate. Sea of Friends is under development but in secret so wait a couple of years or something.

  • Seems to be enough people who want it so why not I see no probs with it let people enjoy the game the way they want see no reason people need to be forced into cross play don't know much about private servers bit that's supposed to be happening why not pve servers the community arguement is just boring and the game has a healthy population and adding these things might just bring lost players and new players back to the game

  • @tak225 that's your take after reading this thread?

OP + 2 agree, many times that number reply to say they think it'll kill the game and your take-away is "seems like there's good support for this idea"

    Boris, is that you?

  • @tak225 If so many people are wanting it, why are you're posts not getting upvoted (the universal sign of approval)

Instead you get more and more people to create the same nonsense posts. You even admitted you don't play anymore, please give it up.

All you are doing is trying to cause disharmony, no doubt you think you are getting a rise out of people.

  • @boxcar-squidy this forum definitely does not represent the entire sea of tjivee community infact most of my Xbox friends who play the game either don't know it exists or don't care I respect people opinion and it's even if it conflicts with mine but I ain't gonna agree with you guys and I think cross play games all should be optional this game on included

  • @tak225 If you remove the victims from the already desolate sea, you will remove the rest of the players who want to pillage. Eventually "enjoying" the game in regards to digging chests, killing skeletons and running chickens around posts will make you leave as well.

Don't kill a game just because you "FEEL" you want to PVE now as you are still learning.

Everybody FEELS their loot is being taken (entitled much?). Guys, the loot is YOURS once you turn it in...

  • @tak225 ah, so your take on this is based on your own echo chamber and not reflective of the community at large.

This forum might not ecapsulate the views of the entire community, but it has a better shot of reflecting the range of opinions out there than a completely unrepresentative sample such as the people on your friendslist.

More importantly though, this game isn't being designed as a democratic exercise. It's not the People's Democratic Republic of Thieves. Rare call the shots. They take our views into consideration, but ultimately, they have complete Autocratic control. They said no safe-zones. They have good reasons, those reasons have been explained to you in this thread.

You can ignore what we say to you. You can just not acknowledge any opposing views or evidence if you want to. It's no skin off any of our noses.

Ignoring what Rare have said about it and continuing to post in thread after thread about it is just wasting everyone's time though.

  • @boxcar-squidy well I do speak to people on twitter who want cross play they have received bans from this forum in the early days if they are to be believed just for asking for optional cross play but I don't know if thats true or not it's what they tell me either way I think rare need to address it I can only say from my friend s list all on Xbox one on both pc and Xbox out of 13 people I personally play with 2 people are still playing the game 1 wants to but there friends have stopped playing till optional cross play is added 8 have stopped playing because of the cross play and 2 I don't know why they stopped does not represent the community at large but neither does this forum

  • @tak225 God I wish they had banned people for asking for optional crossplay, but sadly, no whoever told you that on twitter is lying. That's never happened. Some people may have also broken other rules, but just asking questions has never been banable, nor should it be.

There are very strong feelings on both sides of this debate. I think there's merit in optional crossplay so long as it can be implimented fairly.

PvE servers and safe zones though, as have been asked for in this thread, have no merit and very little support in the community as a whole.

Also mixing the PvE and crossplay discussion leaves you open to people saying you only want opt-out to avoid PvP, and as I think there is some merit to opt-out as a concept, I'd personally try to avoid getting lumped in with the anti-pvp crowd because if you're against pvp you really aren't playing the game as intended.

  • @tak225 Everyone here loves the game enough to be here, your friends don't need you to speak for them. If they can't be bothered enough to come and ask for it themselves, or even voice what they have issues with.

I can guarantee you most of those friends stopped playing cause of the PvP, they use PC as an excuse to explain why they don't play anymore.

How can you even be certain they will return?

  • @blazedrake100 in your opinion

  • As for bans, I remember many of the cross play conversations from a year ago or more. I also remember many of the discussions about PvE servers. And yes, there were bans. But not because they asked for either of them. Because the conversations ended up falling into same old tired insults. There were at least 5 people and most likely more, but 5 people that I remember in those days. Always on one side or the other of the argument, that would get extremely heated. So anyone that is telling you they got banned because of these discussions most likely is forgetting to tell you about how far they went in the conversations. Many of them were even warned, many times over, before the ban took place.

As for a PvE server. I see nothing wrong with it personally. In fact, I would play on one occasionally, so I could play with my 10 year old son. And mostly just so we could play and avoid the toxicity. And yes, there is still toxicity, even today. Just last week I was solo sailing, just out and about, grabbing gems and fish from ship wrecks, maybe even fishing myself. Not once, but twice, a brig with three players on them saw me and decided to sail over and attack me. I saw them and was able to out sail them and keep them at bay. Since the combat "balancing" I get steam rolled far too often, way more than I used to, and I know that I am no match for 3 blood thirsty pirates on my own. So for now, if I am solo, I simply keep away. And while I normally get great joy out of doing that, I was not in the mood. So both times I sailed out to red sea. Each time, I got boorish messages in Xbox app from them. They were borderline on whether I could report them. I didn't want that. I just wanted to sail around and boost my hunters rep some.

Having said that, I love SoT, so why couldn't I have a way of playing without the harassment on occasion?

I will tell you, I used to have hundreds of friends that played SoT. The vast majority of them left because the combat system sucks and they simply don't want the PvP. I guarantee, if there was a PvE mode or server, they would return to the game. For some reason, PvP in SoT seems more toxic than it does in other games. I am not sure why that is, but it seems to be the driving force behind people leaving the game.

Now, I have had to resort to using LFG just to find people to sail with. And even then, I am just not in the mood to sail with random people, so I go it solo. Now, having said that, I would probably not sail in a PvE server all that often. Most of the time it would be with my son or on those occasional days where I just want the beauty of the sea, wind in my sails, along with some peace.

Many other games have a PvE mode of some sort or another, why can't this game?

  • @boxcar-squidy not true. We go about contacting the dev's in a different way due to the bashing you can get here for wanting to opt out of cross play or want to suport pve servers. So many other ways to contact them.

  • @badassfro this forum does. It speak for everyone and even without them there are enough people that want this for it to happen and should

  • @violet-oddsauce exactly you mention you want optional cross play here and your ussually harrased by the same people who want a complete denial of choice there are a few who give there opinion and I respect that it every Ross play game I have played with the exception of Forza games and sea of thieves does not give you that choice and it shoi be there for both of players want it I can't comment on Forza as I don't really play that game online but I would say a mouse might be a disadvantage I don't know

  • @violet-oddsauce not to mention slot of player I talk to on twitter have told me they got banned from this forum for asking for optional cross play it was before I was here so I don't know how true this is

  • @tak225 No I speak for myself, and allow the others to as well. At no point have we said "well there's loads of people who want this but are not on the forums" you have

  • @nofears-fun just going by what I am told from people that was asking for optional cross play on Twitter they tell me they got banned simply for asking for it much more then that I don't know

  • @badassfro I am like the lorax I speak for the trees

  • Other games have PvE servers.

Sea of Thieves is not those other games. It is among the first of its kind, dubbed a SWAG (Shared World Adventure Game) game. It is even more unique in having crossplay, a lack of most conventional HUD, and many other aspects of it, major and minor alike.
