Sloop capsizing from wave

  • My brother said he was sailing in a sloop and went into a storm. He said a wave from the storm completely turned his sloop upside down and it sunk. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm just curious how frequent this is.

  • @buckshot-matt I've been through tons if storms in sloop. Never seen this happen.

  • @buckshot-matt during the storm as i'm sure you know, holes will begin appearing. I imagine holes starting showing up on his sloop but possibly only upperdeck ones where the leak isn't easily heard with all the thunder and rain. Before he exited the storm its very likely that water had hit the point of no return and he sank. Due to the waves as the boat was sinking it got tossed around.

    Obviously just a theory. cheers

  • @xgodkevin I've never had it happen either. He said he was trying to go around the storm, so he wasn't sailing directly into it. Not sure if a wave just hit him broadside?

Yeah, that could be. He was alone, and maybe he didn't realize his ship took damage.

I'm not sayin' it didn't happen to your brother....just sharing what has happened to me. I too have slooped through many a storm - even being chased by a galleon on many of those - and not once did my ship capsize. It creaked and popped and I had some repairs to make.....but never been capsized.

  • @buckshot-matt its very possible. during first 2 days of launch playing with new friends who hadn't tested beta, many times i'd find holes not repaired near the map. Most the time when we were almost sunk. Easily missed and definitely not heard that well if you don't know what your trying to listen for.

  • Yo brotha lie

  • your brother lied to cover for his lack of awareness when lightning put holes in his boat that slowly sunk it while he wasnt paying attention.

  • Never had that happen. More than likely, your brother was too busy/uncaring to save his ship as it pleaded for its life between bubbles.

  • Another possibility that hasn't been mentioned yet is lag. He could have hit a wave at the right moment while the game lagged out, causing the ship to go underwater. I've had my sloop randomly become a submarine before (although the game usually crashes right after).

    My first thought too.

thats lag and often happens during loading. its not real and your boat is not underwater. to test this, use your bucket and you will get no water.

  • @lowbei Yeah, could have been in conjunction with a missed hole.

Some of those lag/disconnects are hilarious. First one I ever saw a galleon we were fighting started doing a wheelie then flew off into the sky. Good ol' Pastiebeard kicked me out shortly after, even though my connection was solid and I was still connected to my party.

  • @buckshot-matt It sounds more than likely what @Freecellqt said.

Although I've never had that happen in a sloop which has become my choice of ship, I have been on a galleon when it stood up on its rear end like a drag car wheel-standing. That was not in a storm either, just some sort of bug in the physics.
A crew member at the time captured it on video, we all slid to the stern of the ship by gravity.

  • Lack of awareness and good timing on the waves part I suppose. One of the sinking animations is the boat rolling over like that so it just happened to have happened when the wave hit.

  • @buckshot-matt
Lighting hits the ship and puts holes in it.
The ship sank because he did not repair it.
He must of been unaware and thought a wave did it.
I have never seen any ship flip over or fly unless a bug caused it.

PERMANENT DEATH is what I remember you suggested before.
You better delete his pirate and force him to start all over. 😄

Lol... yeah. That would be the permadeath thing to do.
