[SOLVED] Want to win a prize? I will buy 1 person...

  • @spikemebaby Congratulations!!! I'll reach out to you via PM and you can choose your prize and everything.

Mind sharing with everyone how you solved it? :)

  • D****t, I'd guessed congratulations as the first word this morning but failed to see the pattern before work. Well done on solving it.

  • @luigi-glory Thanks :)

i have to admit that this cipher was haunting me for days now, but i finally figured it out.
he used the first 100 primenumbers mod26 and replaced them with letters.
    key: CDFHLNRTXDFLPRVBHJPTVBFLTXZDFJXBHJTVBHLRXZJLPRDPTVZFHRXDJLRVXHVZBFTZJLPVDJPTZHLTDFPRXBHPTVZLTXFJPBDV
    decrypted message: CONGRATULATIONSYOUSOLVEDMYCIPHERHEREISMYQUESTIONWHATWILLBETHENAMEOFMYSHIPONCEIBECOMEALEGENDARYPIRATE
    answer: C.L.S. Apocalypto

    FANTASTIC!!!

  • @capt-lachuck Oh I dont think its a One-Time Pad and I do expect there to be a pattern in there somewhere, I just dont think we have enough information to process as based on the info we have a pattern can not be deduced - either that or @xcalypt0x has made an error in encoding which is likely given the length of cipher and length of passkey

  • i think without the QUESTION clue it would have been nearly impossible to solve this thing. there are just way too many possible solutions and even with the clue there still were 1.1441514e+51 letter combinations.
considering the wrong code you posted first, i was pretty sure, that the key was generated iteratively and at one position there was just a typo which resulted in the wrong code ending, but i didnt see the pattern at this point yet.
when you then said that there was indeed a pattern to find in the 8 letters of QUESTION i was totally sure it had to do with numbers instead of letters.
the key fragment for QUESTION was pretty easy to find and had only uneven numbers in it and that smelled like prime numbers. that thing with mod26 was more or less a lucky guess at the end and to my surprise it worked.

so all in all KUDOS for this great riddle!!

  • @spikemebaby what is mod26? And where did you get those uneven numbers? Did you look at the place of the letters in the alphabet?

  • @biggishbike1891 Mod stands for Modulo or Modulus and represents Remainder division. So if I have 4 mod 2 (or 4 % 2), you would do regular division, but your result is the remainder, or 0 in this case. If I did 5 % 2, 2 goes into 5 twice with a remainder of 1, so 5 % 2 = 1. This allows us to shift the letters more than 26 times but "cycle back" to the front of the alphabet.

  • @xcalypt0x okay I think I kind of get it now. Thx

  • @spikemebaby Ah, I knew my error was going to give away the iteration haha! I was hoping the mod 26 would mask the prime sequence since it would only look like shifts were done by amounts less than 26.

  • @spikemebaby Congrats on solving this - at least we can now give our brains a rest haha.
Thanks @xCALYPT0x for giving us a fun challenge.

  • @stacky-a Thanks to you guys for making it so much fun! I wish I was rich so I could do more of them haha :)

  • @xcalypt0x Very creative thinking and a fun idea! I myself would throw out a cipher but I have no money to give away! lol

  • @sir-kringle Haha IKR. I thought if I didn't give out some kind of prize to the winner, no one would put in much time to solve it and it wouldn't be as fun.

Maybe if in the future Rare allows us to gift micro-transaction items I can do some more, smaller ones :)

  • This was super fun to do! Congratz on the winner and thank you for doing something unique like this!

Tbh, I'd love to see more of these in the future. I personally don't need a prize to solve them. Maybe some other puzzle lovers are around here as well and would do them just for fun :D

  • @star-inferno22 I would love to try to crack some as well like when @Capt-LaChuck posted his message :)

I'm not very good at it but it's fun :)

  • @xcalypt0x
I'm not good at it either, but still love doing such things for fun :)

I can imagine that someone is hiding a treasure chest somewhere and uses a cipher text for us to figure out so the one who solved it can go there and pick up the chest. Only problem is that you need to be on the same server for it.

  • @star-inferno22 The megaphone system might be able to help us do stuff that like :)

  • @xcalypt0x megaphone system? What is that? :)

  • @star-inferno22 Apparently we will be able to communicate with other ships from a distance, but IDK if it's server wide or not :)

  • @xcalypt0x oh that sounds cool! Didn't know that, thanks for enlightening me :)

  • @spikemebaby
    congrats Mate, well done

  • I hereby declare xCALYPT0x to be a man of honor who keeps his word!
    Today this arrived via mail.
    Thanks again, Sir!

and of course: banana for scale...

  • Looks like I missed out, we just learned about vigenere’s in my cryptography class. Good job everyone!

    Huzzah Huzzah Huzzah
Great fun and big thanks to @xCALYPT0x

  • @spikemebaby Well played there, congrats, nice print, and thank you again @xCALYPT0x for the fun.

  • @Capt-LaChuck @J4dio The community made it such a great event! I was surprised how many people tuned it, it was awesome!

@SpikeMeBaby Yay!! Glad it got there :) It also comes with a certificate of authenticity, correct?

  • @xcalypt0x That's correct.

It's printed on really thick paper (300g) which is almost 4 times the weight of normal copy paper. Also as you may see in the picture the paper is textured. And last but not least the serial number at the bottom right corner is not printed but written by hand.

Now i just need a nice frame...

    @scheefinator i have the key

I am the gatekeeper. Are you the keymaster?

Sounds like a crypt-er-tunity for another puzzle @xCALYPT0x

  • @capt-lachuck I would love to but it might be a little while.
I have spent an ungodly amount of money on Sea of Thieves merch lol :)
