Reasoning
SoT is a PvPvE game by nature and is very close to Extraction games in its gameplay loop. One of the main issues of the Extraction games is the obvious experience gap: newbies will be stomped by veteran players, or normal players have no chance against no-lifers (no offense). Yes, you can say it's normal for such games, like you are going to randomly encounter top-tier players one-time, next time it will be okayish people, and then total noobs. And I agree with that, but the longer game exists, the more non-linear player distribution will be — skilful players stay in game, most of the players hit their skill ceiling, less new player being attracted, which can cause death spiral. Safer Seas also removed the most chill part of the players from High Seas, which further screws player distribution (Just in case, Safer Seas was a much-needed addition). So, I propose a new mode oriented for hardcore players, which can help flatten player population in High Seas.
Rules
- Loot cost/XP/Emissary/etc are all x3 from normal values. Loot is more generous, maybe Chest of Fortune is guaranteed reward for any event. It will encourage players to pick this mode.
- No Ferry of the Damned and no manual respawns. When you die, you stay as a downed player but can see through eyes of your alive teammates.
- When the whole team dies, you are kicked from the server and need to start again.
- You can use only Captained ships.
- If you are sunk, such ship is marked as damaged and you need to pay decent money to fix it and sail again. Maybe, x10 of a ship price. This is only required for Wild Seas, you still can play on a damaged ship in High Seas.
- If a whole team leaves the server (being wiped or ragequiet, for example), ship is marked as damaged.
- To leave server gracefully without damaging ship you need to interact with shipwright and pick a new option for this action.
- If someone quiets the team, their slot will not be freed. Instead, a special mark (maybe a ghost) will be placed in their last location, and if player decides to return to the party, they'll be spawned in the downed state in this location.
- Guilds will have new per ship settings for allowing sailing in the Wild Seas + additional member permissions who can play on such ships in the Wild Seas.
