It's time to make the Burning Blade diveable and update it's Ai

  • I'm in the minority but I like playing the Burning Blade but it doesn't mean I don't see its flaws.

First as a solo player its really hard to use it properly as you have to leave it alone to do the camps, second is actually piloting it because you have to do it yourself, and third is the skeleton Ai.

Currently just trying to find the Burning Blade is overly difficult which of course people won't want to do, so it's time to make it a diveable, just add it to the Reapers quests.

Now for the Ai, Rare has proved that they can make competent Ai with the Order of Bone and Blade skeletons found on various islands. They can carry items, find treasure, and fight all really well. I don't see why they can't tweak the Ai for the Burning Blade where you use the already existing text command radial to tell the skeletons to put the sails in the wind, raise the anchor, attack, or repair. Rare already does scaling for the number of skeletons that spawn depending on the number of players so they don't even need to adjust that much to make the Blade more fun for solo sloopers.

    Skeletons attack anything on sight.

Well..yes and no. Mostly you dont even need to adjust everything as it pretty fast itself.

If it wasn't I wouldnt do it.

  • @ultrasuprman All it needs is voyage support and world events should still spawn while it's claimed. They gameplay loop on it is so shallow, you sail between skeleton camps and hope that someone attacks you

  • @ultrasuprman

The BB is a world event. When it first made its debut, we were crewing it and after a while of attacking and sailing around, we dove to a new server automatically, without us voting on anything. So, what you're asking already happens if no one sinks it in the appropriate time. Think of it like this: the server isn't going to be held 'hostage' by that ship so no other world events can happen. It dives on its own time.

Asking Rare to change their code when you choose to go solo, is on you. If Rare does this, it opens the floodgate of solo sloopers asking for robots on thier ships too. People wanting to solo a galleon will be asking for an AI crew to command. "We know that Rare has made competent AI crew with the Burning Blade, why can't I solo a galleon?" Don't ask them to change their code when all it takes is for you to simply invite more players if it's too difficult to solo.

  • This is a very risky idea. I mean, making it diveable with capturing abilities, is very risky. without capturing abilities is better.

  • @ultrasuprman

Why do you want to dive as the burning blade? It’s a world event. You’re the world event. And you don’t have any quests to dive to either. Your job is to be a big baddie and lul around doing little errands and wait for someone to show up.

Sadly the only reason any crew should want to sink you is if you have a streak.

Can you imagine this? Say you have an 8-streak, and go to turn-in, but you see a ship is over there. Since you can't turn in with a ship in the area, simply vote to dive to a new server to bypass them. Not cool.

  • It is pretty overpowered so having it on demand would be questionable I think.

I wouldn't say it's rare and see plenty on servers.
Just glad it doesn't make its way to the Roar as there is enough aggro'd PvE already.

  • I don't think it should be divable, but it definitely needs more interesting things to do than farm camps and be used as a FotD/Molten Sands auto-turret.

I think World Events should still be available after a BB becomes player-controlled. The BB crews motivation could shift from solely doing camps for the comm to do World Events and use camps as a way to restock skeletons. It would also give challenging crews more reasons to challenge or even team up against the BB, as the BB crew probably won't stop harvesting until they are done.
