I disagree, all content in game harms or improves the game. Pirate life had such significance, it saw the most amount of active players since the game's release. Adventures have all been abysmal, and i can say, at least for me personally, that with every adventure or mystery introduced into the game, I end up playing less and less. It's like you said, quality of overall content is based on exactly that, which is based on the overall quality of things added or removed per season as well. A tale that only has 1 really annoying puzzle chain over the course of 1 hour is not a good look for the game nor its future. It shows a lack of quality and quantity and for what? Why? Because the game's resource and staff were dived with releasing adventures and mysteries? That's not acceptable.
These past 3 seasons have been the driest in terms of content. Overall the only things that are actually good in terms of quality and quantity are the golden sand re model, and the captaincy mechanic introduction... everything else introduced has been mediocre at best.
and yet activity in season 8 improved organically and 9 has stayed consistent throughout
morale within the organic experience has improved even though some are showing signs of burnout and dissatisfaction in social spaces, the majority of the activity are largely satisfied, consistent activity and investment organically is an indicator of that
There is a situation where people are enjoying the experience more but that doesn't show as much in social spaces because they aren't regularly participating in social spaces. They are playing the game and living life outside of the social side of SoT.
An example, a bunch of content creators have done the "is SoT dying" types of videos this season and then their communities spread it around as if a few opinions from people that play the game all day in specific ways somehow negate the obvious activity on the servers being created by people that play this game for fun.
One of the most active seasons this game has seen in a least a couple of years and it's dying? it's in trouble? the devs are ruining it? the content isn't good enough?
Individuals will either like or not like something but the increased and consistent and varied participation overall in the organic environment suggest that more players are enjoying the direction of content, the qol within the experience.
As long as adventures avoid too much annoying rng and as long as they avoid a bunch of required cooperation they likely do fine overall, that's a business move and that's Rare's business but I haven't seen anything to suggest that those outside of the social areas have much of an issue with adventures, as long as they avoid the 2 things I listed above people tend to be alright with them from what I have seen.
Monkey Island has been great for morale, great for an opportunity for people to reflect on their time here, on their own stories, on the growth and improvement of the game, appreciate the efforts of the devs and the other participants here that make this all possible.
