Ability to turn off crossplay - keep it fair.

  • Before the crossplay was introduced, I had very tense fights with other pirates. Whether it was a firearm fight or a sword fight, it was fair and a lot of shots were missed. Sometimes I had 1 minute long fights and it was awesome. In the last alpha, everyone I met was having perfect aim, doing a 720 no scope backflip headshots from miles away, completely ruining my experience. It's of course due to big advantage that mouse has when it comes to aim and speed. One of the major reasons I've switched to console gaming is because I really didn't enjoy playing like that and I didn't find it realistic. I prefer the heavy feel of the characters when playing on a console.

So yea, nothing against PC players, you guys are awesome. I just don't wanna play against you. In many interviews, Rare stated that the game is all about giving everyone equal chances. Forced crossplay is very much against that. Gears of War does it right, you can simply turn it off in matchmaking. Can we please have the same option in SoT? Give us a fair chance that you've been talking about all this time.

    I agree entirely.

  • @captain-surgee that option will be ok but Rare made it game ok for crossplatform

On pc we can't adjust sensitive when aiming (many poeple are crying about poor sensitivity on sniper). I tested it and aiming on controller is way better than M+K

Second one is that you've got an assist when fighting with someone and your camera stays on target when you are using controller and M+K aswell.

  • @avecrux

this is not actually true, if you can a mouse that has dpi profiles you can make the zoomed in scope as fast or faster than normal aiming, you program you dpi settings to be x4 of what you mouse is then when you hold right click the dpi changes to x4 making the sniper scope move very fast

  • That's not really true.
Look at this girl rotating. I feel like I'm watching a game through the eyes of a chicken

You can easily adjust mouse sensitivity without any in-game settings. I have buttons on my cheap mouse to switch DPI.

  • @captain-surgee
Just out of curiosity, when do you think crossplay was enabled?

  • @erinom3 Few sessions before the beta. I don't remember the exact session.

  • @captain-surgee
It's been enabled since August, they introduced it during Gamescom 2017.

  • @captain-surgee

cross platform was on before the technical alpha was launched lol.

you played the tech alpha as you have founder so if you thought it was ok then which you said it was then there is no change here

  • I feel like this is not needed yet I can't find many arguments against it other than splitting the community.
So it could be done if the game has a large enough player base, if that's not the case I would keep it crossplatform.

  • Umm... Get good. Just up the sensitivity and admit that PC players have better aim. Nothing wrong with that. It is simple.

Get Good. Crossplay is not to blame. You are.

  • I did think this a couple of times today but like someone said above, the scoped sensitivity, and pretty much anything that needs aiming, cannons etc, goes down to nothing on PC, I have to use my entire mousepad just to move it haha
Also yeah, when you melee someone it kinda "locks" your camera to face them so I think they've tried to balance the whole thing a bit to make it fair

  • @wturok

it will limit the amount of sales by alot because pc gamers cannot buy it without buying it on xbox one so in turn it will limit the amount of content due to lack of money.

as yous aid there is no reason to change cross-play if anything its making it better for both pc and console as its doubling the player base meaning now queue times and no dead servers

  • Also, crossplay was a thing earlier :/ I think everyone already pointed that out. Just saying your argument for everything was fine is [mod edited for language]

  • @yellowspider88
    No.
I was in alpha since the start. Cross platform was introduced in August, as Erinom3 wrote. It was NOT in the game before technical alpha lol. It was before closed beta.

  • @pokepaws

try changing ur dpi settings so when you hold right click it changes the dpi to x4 what it is normally, that changes the scoped speed dramatically

  • @itoxic9 I don't understand what's up with you guys. Didn't I write clearly that I had no issues before crossplay was introduced? I was playing SoT for a year already. Cross-play was added a few months ago and even then, very few pc players were in.

  • @captain-surgee

tech alpha started december 16-18th and was extended i believe so if you say it was in august it most certaily was in the tech alpha, also i know for a fact it was in the tech alpha because a few people we joined were playing on xbox one when we were on pc :D

  • @captain-surgee

but regardless of when it was or was not added it should not be removed as it would hinder so much in the game for both pc and console gamers

  • @captain-surgee Ehh not true. You have no credibility. Please provide proof here:

Denial 101. I think you just don't want to admit to yourself that you are terrible at FPS with a mouse and a keyboard.

Guy on a wheelchair : "Yeah i play soccer with my hands, i prefer to play it like this you know, that heavy feel probably".

  • @itoxic9 Credibility about?
Alpha started in december 2016! https://www.gamezone.com/news/the-first-wave-of-invitations-for-the-sea-of-thieves-technical-alpha-has-been-sent-3446547/
I've been playing this game for a year and cross-play was introduced just few months ago.

  • @captain-surgee Credibility in terms of (hummmmm let me think) that your bias opinion isn't fact? Please lets stop this conversation I have more important things. Accept that you are just bad.

  • @itoxic9 It's not that man, it's more that playing on a console you will move and aim completely different because of the hardware your using, you can have the same aiming skill on both PC and console, it's just I'd say majority of the time you can turn a LOT faster when on PC

Take Overwatch for example. Top players have played on both console and PC still stay the same rank or close to it, but when you watch and compare a game of the two you can tell which is which yanno? Console game will have people turning in a noticeable arc or circle whereas PC is more sharp quick turns.
So I do understand where the concern comes with crossplay, especially in a game like SoT where you can potentially have a few hours work at risk when in a fight, but, like I said above, it does seem like the team have changed a few things up to make it a bit more fair, like scoped sensitivity and such (the average person wont know how or might not own a mouse with changeable DPI and that)

  • @aenima123 Last season I've finished halo 5 ranked in team doubles (hardest mode) in diamond 6. I have very good aim.
Just looking at all the toxic PC players calling out my aim. I guess now you can see why I want crossplay off.

Can you play halo 5 with a mouse and a keyboard ?

  • @captain-surgee

if you read into that article it does start that during testing cross platform will be enabled, and the next alpha also had cross platform.

end of the day cross platform is in many games and no1 has issues with it as the advantage is only minimal and like i said the cannons turn the same on console as they do on pc same as ship turning. nothing in this game apart from land battles and only 1 shot give a better advantage over consoles, the melee combat is the same on pc as console so after 1 shot you reload if someone reloads you slash at them with your sword. if you lose to people dont assume they are pc gamers

  • @captain-surgee

aiming on console and aiming on pc are totally different, halo isnt a game ive played since the 2nd or 3rd.

wasnt claiming your aim was bad just saying if you get shot by someone and its not a blunderbuss the time it takes them to reload you could of hit them with your sword 3-4 times and killed them, no need to stand and aim

  • @yellowspider88 Yes, and I know that. What I'm saying is I was playing many months prior to crossplay. SoT alpha launched in december 2016. I still remember when the game looked nothing like it does today. Anyway, that's not the point.

Rare stated the point of the game is to make it 100% fair for everyone. If a group of 4 pc players board the ship of my crew that plays on console, no matter how good my aim is, we will get destroyed. This is not really fair.

EDIT: yes no worries I know you didn't say anything about my aim. I was talking about other guys who told me to "get good"

  • @captain-surgee

ive seen console gamers destroy pc gamers and me and my crew have been wiped so many times by console players so i know you dont want to hear it but its a l2p issue i think.

we have been killed/sunk many times by both console and pc gamers just as many times as each other, neither is better than the other

  • @itoxic9 If you have more important things why the hell are you here talking smack about my aim? Damn, this community is going down the drain. I simply made a request about turning off crossplay and I got attacked by pc elitists saying how much I suck at aiming. Can't have a proper discussion anymore. I feel like I'm on Reddit.

  • @yellowspider88 Yes it can happen. I'm not saying it won't. But regardless, it's not really a fair fight, is it? It's still an advantage. There is a reason why most FPS games don't have cross play and the ones that do have an option to turn it off.

  • I played with 3 pc players and I didn't notice it. But I agree that should have the option to turn off crossplay.

  • @captain-surgee

but claiming someone has an advantage because they are on pc is like claiming someone has an advantage because they have more hours played than you or the fact that they have more cannonballs on their ship.

the issue isnt based on cross platform nor because we are pc gamers its an issue of learning how to deal with the pc gamers, i know its hard to stop boarding but it can be stopped in alot of situations.

we usualy end up sinking them before they can board they either get knocked off their ship or they end up running out of planks, either way we dont get boarded

  • @captain-nicklas

like alot of people have said the option to turn it off would limit the amount of servers running costing them alot more money it would also ruin the game in a sales point of view as they wouldnt be able to sell 1 game for xbox and pc because the servers wont be linked if cross play is turned off, if you kill someone on xbox only servers the stats wouldnt update on the overall score so your treasure and coins gain wont either. the system in place manages it as a whole. without cross play it wont work
