If u rowboat and board not swim ur mermaid should be further away

  • Because you don't actually touch the water. But it seems they just stays near your location. A lil too close for comfort but when you need it it's literally no where to be seen lol . It Should just be close when u touch the water. That's what I rekon anyway (ps they still dam ugly) But be further away if u deck shot or successfuly board via rowboat by ladder or docking. If this don't make sense my bad I'm not great at spelling and all that soz

If you pull a deck shot board and it took a mermaid for them to notice you that crew has enough problems 😂

  • @pithyrumble haha truth!

  • @hornet-hill-19 I could see and option to dismiss the mermaid, it would reset the next time you board your ship. You would have to swim to her and choose to send her away.

Once dismissed you would have to row, swim or die to return to your ship.

  • Mermaids are to give away your location this is designed as a balance measure.

There's no chance the purpose is to help players find their mermaid?

  • Fair enough too. But some times I just wana donk the mermaid on the head lol. I shall end this post and I thank you for commenting

you could hide my mermaid, cover me in Predator camo, and wipe their short term memory with one of those men in black sticks and they probably will still find me

  • @wolfmanbush 🤣🤣😔 well played!

    This is in addition.

Thier purpose was to give players a way back onto their ship after falling off or being left on an island. Their other use is more an emergent gameplay element.

Almost anti emergent if you consider sneaking up on players to be emergent.

  • @foambreaker

You could word it that way. I'm not saying that the OP's idea is a good one. It's just that Mermaids came in with a specific purpose. To claim that they were designed for a different one isn't correct. However, that people have figured out to look for them as evidence for tuckers/boarders, is a natural flow of using what the game provides.

I know the devs have taken SOME steps in making tucking better (barrel emotes, tuck emotes, etc) so they don't dislike the tactic. But they also do need to keep in balance.

That is only one of their purposes.

They are left visible as a early warning sign ALSO.
