Tall Tales, Hunter's Call Updates and Alliance Tweaks

  • Suggestions on improving player interactions and faction updates

    1. A flag that is activated/present on the ship when a player starts a tall tale.

Often times other crews sink ships that are merely doing tall tales and so few actually board to check if the player is on a tall tale.

Many crews view other ships and take account of their emissary and loot that they might possess and decide on whether to sink them or not.

This flag ensures that the player ship is actually doing a tall tale and is not a threat nor an incentive for other crews to sink

If any loot other than tall tale items enters the ship, the flag get removed to prevent players from abusing it

    1. Hunters Call Updates

    A. Being able to buy bait crates
    B. Stop splashtails from spawning on a baited rod
    C. Hunter Call Emissary (Maybe or maybe not?)
    D. Megalodon Voyages (just like the hungering deep event)

....or any updates at all to the Hunters faction, it sure would please the heart of every fisherman in the sea of thevies

    1. Alliance loot to be paid in full (rather than half) with added emissary bonus for the crew with the emissary and commendations behind loot to be completed for all ships in the alliance.

Alliances are often laden with betrayals and many players dread alliancing for the fear of all their hard work being for naught and being led to slaughter

This change would encourage alliancing and working with other crews rather than betrayals which often leaves a sour taste for the betrayed crew.

  • And how would you code the so the loot is separate? Because if it was so easy, it would already be done for things like stolen loot for Reapers.

I could however see a PvE flag working, although obviously that could be abused like Alliances (false flag operation). Speaking of Alliances, it's probably not been buffed because of Alliance servers. Fix that, and then maybe they can be buffed.

  • I can agree with the hunters call thing, I didn't really read the first one, and the last one is the worst thing I've heard as an alliance change just under "no friendly fire on alliances"

You already get enough gold as it is; making it so you get even MORE from alliances like they aren't crazy enough already is unnecessary

Yeah, I want some free magically generated gold too!

Let's be real here, everyone is lucky the factions in their infinite idiocy offer 50% more because you are friends with another crew for whatever reason.

  • By making baits something that you can buy you're discouraging exploration, and it's highly going to be criticised due to the fact that you can just dig it up.

If you give full amount of rep & gold to alliances then there's no point in PvP other than fun.

A big no to this one.
this would only encourage more alliance server take overs.

Betrayals are part of the game, but the big mistake alliance players make is to take it personaly.
In the end its just a game.

  • @izain4505 Everyone else has already addressed points 2 and 3, so I'll tackle your 1st point:

A flag that is activated/present on the ship when a player starts a tall tale.

Often times other crews sink ships that are merely doing tall tales and so few actually board to check if the player is on a tall tale.

Many crews view other ships and take account of their emissary and loot that they might possess and decide on whether to sink them or not.

If any loot other than tall tale items enters the ship, the flag get removed to prevent players from abusing it

Okay, but the problem here is that TTs are not exclusive - I can be doing other quests or picking up additional loot while on a TT. For this reason, I am still worthy of being attacked and robbed and sunk.

Furthermore, such a flag could potentially be used as way to avoid being attacked - I could put up the flag, then simply not do the TT while I collect loot from, and do, other voyages. Of course, as with all flags, unless a gameplay mechanic is implemented with it (not a suggestion that I recommend here), then it's open to interpretation by whomever views it.

With your suggested mechanic, it can still be abused, because it means they'll theoretically be safe until they put loot on board their ship. This means that they could potentially cheese the system. For example, ALWAYS having the flag up during travel, or the beginning of voyages, such as sitting at a world event. Also, what would happen if another crew donates some loot to the ship with the flag? Would that then remove the flag and give them cause to attack you for "stealing" their loot? See how that doesn't exactly work because of how easily that mechanic can be circumvented?

Finally, TTs already have an anti-attack/sinking measure - they're called checkpoints; these allow you to continue your progress easily if you are to have a run of bad luck when encountering another crew or other adversaries or unfortunate incidents. Simply go back to your quest table and reactivate from their after achieving a checkpoint. 😉

  • I would enjoy any updates at all for hunters call. Mostly voyages I believe should be added

So when I do a tall tale and find loot along the way I'm forced to leave it behind if I want that flag to stay?
Also there are other reasons to attack...supplies
    Sorry, no

  • 1- you're going to get attacked still.

    2B- RNG doesn't like ye.

3- if you want 100% payout, turn it in yourself. Alliances don't need a buff (or a nerf either...).

    1. A flag that is activated/present on the ship when a player starts a tall tale.

I think it's a bad attitude to attack players doing tall tales, but this is a shared world game, so the risk is just that.

But it also happened that I attacked a ship with Reaper 5 emissary and the subject I was doing was making a Talle... With Reaper 5 emissary flag... So I don't know how the system would work properly.

The checkpoints are determined precisely to surprise this, if you think it's bad to be attacked now, imagine when there were no checkpoints and campers were common near Tall Tales.

    1. Hunters Call Updates

I think it's interesting to be able to buy baits, but at the same time I think it's unnecessary because it's absurdly easy to find them, just dig.

Hunter's Call Emissary I don't see any sense, the company doesn't have missions, and if it did, it would be very similar to Merchant's, and absurdly repetitive.

    1. Alliance loot to be paid in full (rather than half) with added emissary bonus for the crew with the emissary and commendations behind loot to be completed for all ships in the alliance.

I will never understand the point of paying more for less risk. The more ships in the alliance the lower the risk of being stolen, the gold should be split, not increased.

I even think that encouraging alliances is killing the game.

  • A lot of these hunter call requests typically just ask to make the faction less of a grind and easier to do which begs the question what of the pirates who actually went through and finished it already. A change like making splash tails not spawn on lines with bait is huge and significantly decreases fishing time.

Which means there are only two choices:

    • Either Rare has no care or respect for the players that finished the grind already

    • Rare makes time limited rewards for the people that finished hunters calling before the massive update. Finishing hunters call now is a really big feat taking about as much time as it took to reach LSD/TSD. Which angers players who will not get the rewards.

    So which is it?

  • 1.no
    2a.yes
    2b.no
    2c.sure
2d.no, I don't want to spend the next year doing meg voyages trying to get the shrouded ghost
    3.Absolutely not

  • I don't see any reason to add more to the Hunter's Call, outside of maybe the voyages that appeared briefly during one of the events that sent you to specific spots to fish. Those could be useful for teaching new players where to find specific fish, or to increase the chance of catching rarer ones maybe, but it will likely be more efficient to just fish on your own.

The problem is that the majority of the "loot" that this faction generates is completely destroyed when the ship sinks, which makes putting an emissary onto this faction problematic. Generally players who want to fish also want to be left alone, so further integrating them into the trading company system by making them a target for Reaper's will likely make sitting around fishing for hours even less desirable.

The commendations are already pretty grindy and I would guess that less than 3% of the playerbase has unlocked all of the comms so there isn't really a need to add more to it right now.

  • -1) I think this is a good idea, but it would have to be very specific and take everything into account. What I mean by that is, it would be a flag that could ONLY be affixed if you have no emissary flag, no voyage down, and no loot onboard your ship. The second you put loot on your ship, the flag goes away. The second you try to put a voyage down (even just for mileage), the flag goes away. You could even get a prompt similar to what you see when you enter a Sea of the Damned portal except for when you pick up a piece of loot. Something like "Placing this loot on your ship will remove your Tall-Tale-Only flag". Sure, there would be ways to cheese it with a rowboat, but it would take a lot of effort to yield minimal reward.

-2) No opinion on 2a-2c. I find fishing incredibly boring, but some people love it and I'm sure they'll chime in. 2d, however, I think is a great idea and something I've mentioned before. I think a chum bucket would be a really unique tool that you could use for both PvE meg hunting, and also as a PvP tool. Something that would attract a meg and a bunch of sharks to a specific area. More tools to mix up the PvP metas, the better.

-3) I choose not to alliance because it's no fun making extra gold for something I didn't participate in. It has nothing to do with trust. There's absolutely no reason to make the alliance system any more absurd for gold making than it is today. The alliance system needs a different/better reward than just more useless gold.

  • @izain4505 they need to drop the alliance loot share honestly, creating loot out of thin air is dumb. Making it make absolutely 0 sense to steal loot is a bad idea.

  • HUGE no to no.3
