arena - scuttle ship

    1. any ship that currently, doesn't have any players on the "team" should be scuttle i.e afk ship. or ships that are "disconnected"
--- if those players do decide to return, allow the ship to respawn.

    2. kinda thinking about having RARE penalize ships whom scuttle at the start.

    -- it gives 10 cannonballs, 5 coconut, 5 planks
--- possible spawn closer to the chest / "capture the flag" situation.

Sure it might not be the last one, but tactical for getting extra supplies. I personally think they RARE should add negative numbers to, i.e.
    -- scuttle
    red team 0
    blue: 0
    green: 0
    purple: -1000
    yellow: -1000

and possible furthest spawn possible from chest.

All rare has to do is just add more supplies, if your counter argument is "it's for the supplies"

Other wise arena is just gunna turn into Purple has sunk! Yellow has sunk! within the first minute. Which would pretty much imply " Hey those guys are good / Meta players"

  • @dragonwhir0 Arena should be quick play about fights. Any mechanism that discourages players to continue (negative points, limiting supplies, unequal start location) will lead to players leaving the arena and round to never start. That's not what we want.
I'd say there is no issue with afk players and ships, as long as they don't become farm for point of other players. To prevent that, players should be involved in game scoring (hits/impacts gain score) only after they move (use any bind key, any of crew) and same applies after each ship respawn (after scuttle/sink).
So hitting or sinking afk player would not get you any points and just waste your resources - players would lose motivation to focus on afk ships.

  • @johncourtier

    Arena should be

    • get chest
    • fight for chest
    • sink ships that contest chest

so my point is, if you negatively punish scuttling within the first 5 minutes of the game. (which shocking I know, is to get more supplies i.e. out resource your opponent, i.e. unfair advantage.) sloop - extra 20 cannon balls, galleon - extra 40 cannonballs.

If you scuttle within that time frame it should punish the player, because they are trying to get an advantage over other crews. i.e. possible spawn closer.

The point is to discourage scuttling at the start, for the purpose of getting a competitive advantage over others. If you get punished for scuttling, i.e. -1000 points and it remains -1000 on the scoreboard, do you think next game you are going to try that? No.

well, people go to afk ships(or weaker crew) because you get more points in comparison to actively seeking the chest.

so either rare increases the point value for the chest, i.e. 1500 or 2000 per chest

The game can also instantly scuttle a ship which has no players, weather it's via disconnect ect. So that when the crew does decide to rejoin (which rarely ever happens) the boat can pop up out of the water with it's previous score without a penalty to their points.

-- the only counter argument to that would be " but first place can just leave the game/ alt f4 so they cant get a -1000 when someone sinks them. Which rare can do a simple "if player is first place and disconnects, then lose 1000 points." which would discourage the " I am in the lead lets alt f4 because xxxx ship is coming to attack.

  • Arena right now I feel has been greatly improved from before however, I do agree that it has many issues.

Scuttling being one of them. I have been thinking over the past few weeks on how they could implement a change that would remove this problem without having points go into the negative. Negative points I genuinely dont think would work. By the same system any ship that gets sunk with less than 1000 points will also be penalized in theory.

I would be in for removing the scuttle option completely from arena however, saying that it would create more of a problem for the farming of ships and teams unable to scuttle and potential make a comeback in the game.

Additionally AFK farming is a huge problem in the game. When ships spawn with no crew they need to be taken out of the game immediately or one team ends up with double supplies (if they feed of the afk ship which they often do) and end up stacking a huge lead that no single chest will top.

Arena has greatly improved but it needs a lot of touch ups and its difficult in my view of how they can change it.

I think personally giving a ship points for sinking a ship would be good but how do you code that? Say a ship gets hit with 5 canon balls all from different ships, who gets the points?

its a hard issue to cover and i think the devs have their work cut out trying to improve it. I do however agree, afk ships need to be removed and a plan for the scuttle needs to put into affect.

  • In most matches we use all cannonballs on the galleon. And we need more cannonballs for the last 3-5 minutes.

They have to add more supplies to all ships.

  • Alternatively to solve the Supply's issue, how about an increase to the Floating Supply Barrels found in Arena. I mean litter the instance with them. If "lack of supply's to last the match" truly is the only reason Start Scuttling exists. Maybe give Arena Pirates more ways to obtain them during a session.
Failing that all Arena teams should be aware of the limited supply's available and not be so wasteful with them, Conserve what you can, you know Tactics an all that.

  • If you can't beat em, Join em! What's stopping YOU from scuttling?

  • Now the ships have double the resources. Already seeing no one scuttle except to hide they are camping turn in.
