TORTUGA (like in "Pirates of the Caribbean")...

  • Someone probably posted this idea already, but I'm thinking of an "main Pirate Island" like in PotC: A non PvP area with shops, fist fights, all kind of mini games etc.
You could add a new region for that or simply put it on Smugglers' Bay (this Island is destined for a huge Outpost :D)
    What do you think?

  • I think Smuggler's Bay would be perfect! All of those crewless ships with unguarded treasure tightly packed together in the bay with only 1 way out? Yes, please! 😈

  • I quite like the idea. Perhaps a huge island with a large jetty area surrounded by a tall wall. The wall would have a small opening where the harbour master would take you weapons from you and return them to you when you leave. You'd just be left with your fists. If you're health gets to zero whilst you're there your character essentially goes to sleep for 2 minutes.
On entering your boat would have to be restricted to a speed limit so you couldn't ram other parked ships. The wall would have to be far away enough from the island so once parked you couldn't be hit by cannon fire coming over the wall.
You'd have to make the place feel authentic to the game. I don't think people would want an area where all of a sudden damage is reduced to zero. There'd have to be an island design where the reasons your boat can't be sunk make sense.
There wouldn't be anything stopping people camping the island though and waiting for you to leave, but that's just something you'd have to live with.
The entry into the harbour bit would need thinking about. I think you'd have to stop, talk to a harbour master, give in your guns and if you tried to enter without doing this there would be cannon placements that would sink you.
It should be made so that using it as a bolt hole to avoid attacking pirates is difficult, if they are hot on your tail.

  • Could be an island created in the middle of the map, called pirate paradise, The PVP could be disabled, however they could not sell things in that place because it would not have been stolen by other players

For being a more "important" area the players could appear there when they entered for the first time in the game

  • I have always hoped for such a place, even if it means we have to load into it once we sail into it's waters, similar to the PL's hideout, that way, cannons/weapons could be disabled there with no need for extra coding difficulties.

  • @der0ve I think this is a waste of time. You have the outposts, you have the athena. I would prefer that Rare would develop the game the way they intended to do, as you can imagine if you would read the ArtBook. I vote for "Stop hunting the Staff". Let them breath and develop.

  • No. With how few ships are on any given server, having people hide out in a safe zone is a terrible idea. Luckily, the devs see this and have been crystal clear from the start, there will be no safe zones.

  • @rk1-turbulence they never really said that or seen it that way Mike chapman has said they would like to do a social area where u can interact with other crews maybe they could add dice and card games there.

  • @der0ve personally I love this idea we need a place like this in the sea of thieves so we can chill out with crews who we meet in a safe area. If they ever added they should have mini games to play

  • @goedecke-michel You could write this comment below every post in this forum... Of course we let them develop the game the way they want, but the "FEEDBACK + SUGGESTIONS"-section is exactly for ideas like mine. It's up to them if they add it into the game sooner or later...
Besides that: Restrict the area just for infamous Pirates (You need a specific fraction Lvl. to enter) and you won't have empty seas...

That sounds even worse imo. Nothing in this game is restricted for new players, it's pretty integral to the basic design of the whole game.

inb4 PL hideout and voyages are restricted, that's not new features but more of the same in a fancy wrapping.

  • @der0ve Besides the Besides section, you are right, sorry.

The ferry of the damned is perfect for that.

  • @bloodybil true there is a Sea Of Dammed region in the art book 😉

  • I think the perfect location would be the sea dogs tavern. It's already set up for multiple boats. There is ample room for the games and activities you mentioned.

My idea is PvP is disabled within a proximity of this island. There will be no place to sell loot so bringing loot there wouldn't make sense. Not to mention other pirates could pick up your loot and carry it away. Not boy would this provide for a safe place to play games it will allow those looking to alliance a place to meet.

  • @guybrush3pwood2 Knocking players out for 2 minutes? That's worse than death! The ferry only takes 30 seconds, and at least has the decency to spawn you on your boat. I can picture it now: wack, unconscious black screen for 2 minutes, wake up, wack... Trolli g to the extreme.

    Yeah, no thanks.

  • I concur but then for the sake of balance there should be a navy base too, with a castle? pls, PLS, PLEASE!

  • @galactic-geek okay.. 30 seconds then. The time isn't set in stone. Would you still want to respawn on your boat if you've just had a fist fight?

  • @bloodybil I've always thought the FotD would be a great place to have those games and such that people keep asking for, plus in a way it's a safe zone since we are already mostly dead and have no weapons. Let's open up the bottom 2 decks of the Ferry and create The Limbo Pub.

Exactly! No combat possible, no loot shenanigans, no shipjacking, nothing but passive players to engage in whatever they want down there. When they want to leave, they pass the door and come back to the land of the living. No need for new islands or different access point, die and you're there!

Anything that is a safe zone that you can access with your ship with loot on board is a big nope from me.

  • @bloodybil Well said! Just another instance of things already existing in the game that people want to create unnecessary rules for.

Completely agree about not needing a safe place on the map. No need. Not necessary.

  • @badrobott Call it:

    • The Limbo Lounge
    • Perished Pub
    • Tavern of the Trespassed
    • The Drinking Deceased
    • Bloodless Bar
    • Cold One's Canteen
    • Stiff Drink
    • Inert Inn
  • @bloodybil All excellent suggestions, I'm partial to The Limbo Lounge.

Well I mean let's be honest, people can already AFK on the ferry... Might as well have a mini social hub for people to socialise in an environment that can't be abused with loot protection and such. Personally, during some teamwork events I would sometimes linger a bit on the ferry until new dead would spawn, to try to recruit them for the megalodon or the thrones.

Got your butt kicked real bad? You are salty about having lost a big haul with your crew? Take a deep breath (wait, you're dead) and play a hand of cards or some dice with your dead crew for a couple minutes to cool your head before respawning!

Some other victims of your aggressor might join you on the ferry not long after? Maybe you guys can band together and regroup in the living world to get a collective revenge?

  • @bloodybil We're in the middle of a fight and desperately need to regroup in order to claim victory, but instead my crewmate gives up believing all is lost due to his ignorance and decides to stay on the ferry and play cards instead... When I needed him most.

    Yeah, no thanks.

Sure that's a way to see it too. Your friend could already bail on you right now by deciding to go have a smoke or take a leak while being dead anyways.

All I'm saying is that there are already ways to AFK, and existing distracting things to do in the game right now. People want a safe zone to chill and meet people (I don't want safe zones of any kind personally), I'm just saying it already exists, games or not. It simply seems easier to balance than an island with special rules.
