  • Project Proposal: “Waves of Redemption” – A Story Expansion for Sea of Thieves

    Overview & Story Integration

Sea of Thieves has always offered freedom, adventure, and mystery across the open seas — yet many players seek a deeper sense of identity, purpose, and progression.
The “Waves of Redemption” expansion introduces a story-driven experience centered on the player’s own character, Jack, now with a fixed identity and backstory.
Players continue to control Jack as they always have, but now they experience his story, personality, and motivations while seeing how he interacts with a new crew.

Players join a group called “Saviors of the Sea,” dedicated to cleansing the ocean of ancient curses.
Throughout the story, Jack and the player are introduced to new NPCs who have their own personalities, backgrounds, and motivations, forming a dynamic crew.
Each chapter of the story requires the crew to gather a specific amount of gold — for example, 100,000 — in a shared Crew Chest before unlocking the next mission.
This represents teamwork and shared purpose while also creating a clear gameplay loop:

Adventure → Earn → Contribute → Unlock next chapter

This system combines exploration freedom with linear, story-driven progression, ensuring that players always feel meaningful engagement in the world and connected to Jack’s personal journey.

🧭 Goal: Strengthen immersion by giving players a true role in the world, letting them experience Jack’s story while building relationships with the crew and participating in a shared narrative.

    1. Personal Floating Island (Raft Haven)

Each player has a small wooden floating island that serves as their personal base and spawn point.

    Features:

The island appears only when the player is online in the server.

Contains basic structures: a dock, storage chest, map table, and campfire.

Upgradable visuals and functional improvements (better storage, small defenses, etc.).

Serves as a safe zone and can be visited cooperatively by friends while online.

⚓ Purpose: Provide every pirate with a tangible “home” that gives a sense of belonging and transforms the Sea into a persistent, living environment.

    1. Personal Treasure Chest System

Instead of having infinite invisible currency, all of the player’s gold is stored physically inside a Personal Chest on their Raft Haven.

    Features:

Holds all of the player’s gold and rare items.

Appears only when the player joins the game.

Can be moved, hidden, or secured during gameplay.

This system introduces real stakes: every voyage and decision carries tangible risk and reward.
It also adds strategy, as players decide when to store their gold versus when to carry it for missions or adventures.

💰 Goal: Transform wealth from a number into a tangible, meaningful resource that players must protect.

    1. Clash of Clans-Style Attack System

The expansion introduces a new menu feature called “Attack”, inspired by Clash of Clans.
When a player selects this option, the game searches for other players’ wooden bases and presents them as potential targets.

    Key Features:

Each wooden base includes defensive structures and skeleton guards, providing strategic challenges to attackers.

If the player does not like a particular map, they can skip it by paying 4,000 gold to see the next available target.

Players can generate NPC reinforcements, similar to Clash of Clans, which arrive via a support ship to aid during attacks.

Unlike traditional Clash of Clans, attacks are experienced in first-person perspective, allowing players to directly control Jack during assaults.

    Gameplay Impact:
This system adds competitive PvP opportunities within the open-world Sea of Thieves environment, while still maintaining the story and linear progression for Jack. Players can plan strategies, manage resources, and decide how to approach enemy bases.

⚓ Purpose: Introduce an additional layer of strategy, risk, and reward, giving players meaningful objectives outside the main story and fostering interaction with other pirates’ bases.

My English is not very good, so I used Al assistance to help me organize and express my ideas clearly. These are my suggestions for improving Sea of Thieves and adding meaningful story-driven content. I hope you find them interesting and useful.
