Please reverse the recently announced changes to Twitch Drops

  • Recently, in a Sea of Thieves news video, they announced new changes to the Twitch drop systems.

The idea of changing the Twitch drops seemed good, but the changes implemented only exacerbated the issues I had with them.

The problem with Twitch Drops, in my mind, was

    • Too much time spent watching

    • Too few rewards for the time warranted

    • Too much time spent on 1 item set

    • Too much item padding

The changes to Twitchdrops make this all far, far worse.
    There is

    • More time spent watching

    • More padding in the list than ever, including already released emporium items.

    • More spaces in between new items, such as the Amethyst Mercenary set.

I feel like the problem could be solved by offering items in bundles for the hours spent. Spending 1 hour in a twitch drop could unlock 2 items instead of just 1 (1 for every 30 minutes)
This way, people are still watching for 4 hours, but the item set doesnt over stay its welcome, and isnt stretched thin over months.

With the new system, in order for a person to obtain the entire Amethyst set at the current rate we have of 1 item every 6 hours, it would take someone 192 hours to get the entire set. That is a LOT of time.

This would be better if the entire 6 hour drop was just parts of this item set. You could get that done in about 5 twitch cycles. Or, if you offered 2 items per hour, with a little bit of padding, that would be done in about 3-4 twitch cycles.

But with the new system it just, isnt great.

Sorry this isnt very professional, im just kind of frustrated.

  • I already couldn't care less about Streamers, yet alone SoT Streamers where most are boring outside of maybe 5 of them that are genuinely engaging with the comments (Kraken, Boxy, Flotsam, CJshiz)
Oh and of course they are all NA.

I don't mind these twitch drops since Ill just be going afk with them running. Sorry not sorry.

  • Too much time spent watching

Raise of hands. Who actually watches these videos??

  • @veronik5682 I think this latest stated any participating streams. So you could stream yourself, leave phone afk as single viewer and get them 😅. Or in general support smaller streamers etc

  • SoT is very VERY generous with their twitch drops. 1hr per item isn't bad compared to 4 hours for one item (Halo, Diablo...)

    Although I agree with @BurnBacon
Even if I afk, I don't want to support SoT Partners anymore.

  • I put on a stream, the go about my business for the amount of time required. No ones says you actually have to watch. I don't mind the current line up. Sure I have some of the items, but it beats the Eastern Winds stuff. Not sold on gold and renown being offered, but I really don't care that much. I very much enjoyed the voyage the last time it was offered.

  • The game isn't as popular as it once was. Twitch streamers still help bring new eyes to the game. Some streamers even quit their "real job" to steam Sea of Thieves full time.... Odd game of choice considering lack of substance in the content. I think this is just Rare trying to throw a bone to the streamers who've stuck with the game since now we have to watch longer. However if out of the whole set of drops you only want 1 and say that one isn't unlocked till the very last drop it either means throw on twitch on another screen and mute it for a day or just give up on drops altogether. Honestly most of the drops lately haven't been that appealing. The fact we STILL don't have a way to favorite cosmetic items and we can't sell items we no longer want that's causing extreme collection bloat. I just throw on a costume and gave up on the cosmetic side of the game.

  • I don't think anyone watches these videos. Even the friends or family members of these guys that join chats once in a while seem to do that under request.

Let's be glad they moved on from Eastern Wind stuff and enjoy the new recolors of old cosmetics!

SoT Partners has turned into such a bad rep the past couple years it's kinda hilarious yet sad...

Really the ONLY stream I tuned into which I won't name, but an HG main at 50-100 viewers per stream on a good day, they have been doing it for years and ALWAYS wondered how they even managed to support living life when I maybe see a sub once every week, the amount of calculated money isn't even enough to pay a month's rent in a poor town in the UK mind you, let alone support other expenses on top of that...
Turns out that person was living either on Government funds or parents money and just admitted to wanting to look out for a job just as of recently.
I don't have a lot of respect for these people living off other peoples hard work taxes when they are perfectly able-bodied.

SoT is really the game where streamers don't get much success at all. The biggest being BoxyFresh who doesn't even get 2,000 viewers. Think about that for a minute. Like actually.
The ''Big'' SoT Streamers are ones like ToxieSinclaire, IDBZ, Flux who all average around the 100 viewer mark. That is who we consider ''big'' in the SoT community when it's in fact 'small' in most other games that play their cards right unlike RARE. Beardageddon being the same range as Boxy in terms of being ''the biggest'' they can somewhat sustain a 'decent' living.

Also once again not going to name names, but a few are view botting to reach that 100 viewership with a dead in-active chat...

Really the only 2 folks that pop in my head that found great success in doing other content without fully dying in the process is Blurbs and Serpentz who have managed to hit 100k views per video + in other games/content forms that isn't a failure that SoT is.
You look at legends such as Pace22 who were the biggest and still pretty big, with just below 100k subs on YT yet fail to even reach 10k viewership is alarming.
Pace22 and folks like Mixel who try variety then quickly scurry back to the SoT.
Pace I have at least more respect from, Mixel just complains, claim to quit the game, comes back, still talks bad, admits he hates it with a passion yet is chain locked to the Ferry of the damned as his main source of income.

  • I don't really watch streamers unless there is a reward. I find watching others play video games as boring.

I use these twitch drops to help smaller streamers who are trying to either make it or have fun with it as a hobby.

I'll be honest, I'm not actually watching. It is playing on my laptop while I'm in game on my xbox.

  • If you don't wanna support or watch a streamer, you can simply start one and mute the tab and leave it there. It's free stuff in the end of the day, hard to complain. Like it or not but streamers is a vital part of a games lifespan.

  • Why complain about free stuff?

So true, why complain about the twilight flag.
    Such a masterpiece...

  • Like many people have already said, it's easy just to start the stream on your phone and leave it running while doing other things.
I do agree that cosmetic sets seem to be all over the place lately and it takes a lot longer to earn a full set.
I think the last time I was really active with playing regularly and keeping up with twitch drops, they were giving out the Twilight Hunter set over the course of a couple of cycles.

I also think that they could give out some of the more desirable items more often, such as the Obsidian and Guilded Phoenix stuff, instead of hiding them behind giveaways where you have to buy tickets to enter a prize draw.

The only streamer I support is PhuzzyBond, purely because I like his attitude and his approach to teaching the game to new players. His YouTube videos really helped me a lot when I came back to the game when the Pirate's Life update dropped.
