EAC - Unknown File Version (SoTGame.exe)

Will we be able to expect any kind of compensation when it is finally repaired, or should we just be happy that it is finally working?

WHY EAC IS MAKING ALL GAMES UNPLAYABLE, EXCEPT FORTNITE....

The support is just sending me the same response for weeks now. Still doesnt work of course. Honestly i dont think there will be any kind of solution in the near future because if they cared, they would have fixed this by now.

60 days without any acknowledgement of an issue that makes the game completely unlaunchable.

EAC is making all games unplayable, this is EAC fault !

This game is FLAWED since 2 months !!! Thanks to EASY ANTI CHEAT, and they DO NOT CARE!!! how many patches last few months? 3 or 4, and none addressing this issue.

I guess Rare is showing his true colors.

go play with your PS5 friends now Rare, you are definitely destroying what you have built since 2018.

I give up. I havent been able to launch the game after over 60 days, ive reinstalled windows, sot (multiple times) and same issue.

I think this is the way Rare has now to get rid of the old player-base, they might be just happy with their new PS5 friends and Sony's dollars.

This is just another sad conclusion to a good game that "had" potential,

Rare does not understand the magnitude of this issue, and they will find the hard way that alienating your old player base (that helped you achieve unthinkable things for them, and placed them where they are now) is such a bad mistake.

Whatever Rare. You shot for the stars, but shot yourself on both of your feed in that attempt.

I am actively sharing this issue, this way people is aware of the level of negligence rare puts out.

But hard to abandon so much time and fun spent with friends or family on this game...

EAC has never put all cheaters out of a game, in fact it kicked the boot only of little beginner cheaters -- check Call of Duty, Tarkov, Apex Legend for example : it has never stop strong guys in programming (and players are often strong in this) to cheat and so ruin other players games.

We can all also quote that RARE has never put any true communication on this topic. Did you check the "News" part of this site since the problems of EAC ? Only cosmetics, new season and PS5 topics are the news.
Same : did a representant of RARE came here ? Nope, just some believers of their skills and spirituality preaching that they work on it.

Minimum of respect form RARE to its community would be a true communication from RARE at least to explain how they manage this problem since these 2 months, what wall they meet that justify that they are totally not able to solve.

By the way read good the posts guys, because new players are stuck as much as old players, whatever Steam / Xbox live / Original game panel.
I bet it is due to the non-fiability of EAC on every computers (kernel topics for example).

What I blame RARE the most is how they (don't) assume their sneaky decision to go forward with EAC "whatever the cost may be" (W. Churchill eh).

Next time a friend ask if this game is good : "yeah the game is good, but their leader team doesn't care of doing wrong decisions".

Maybe we will have a "sorry and thanks for your patience" at the end ? (= Common sentence of the "new managing" way that only weak groups use because they can't assume to repair the non-fun we actually have, counting that you guys and me we paid for having fun through their game)

EAC is a flawed on xbox pc app.

@mangoolia Could you please just post a text explanation, If you do have a solution, you're just making it less accessible to everyone.

I've tried mangoolia's solution, and nothing helps. I am wondering if the problem comes from EAC misconfiguration with the game because, otherwise, Fortnite is launchable with his EAC program.

@lilblancheqc Absolutely, EAC is refusing to accept the .exe, which would imply there's either some sort of mismatch between what it's expecting and what it's being given, or EAC simply isn't implemented correctly on the MS version.

I am wondering when they will fix it for good, EAC is making all games unlaunchable on microsoft store / xbox.

Dead By Daylight, Hell Let Loose, and now Sea of thieves, they all are unlaunchable since EAC implementation.

I found something interesting. It works not only with 0, but with any number: if e.g. I enter 55 and I still don't get an error, the game simply stops.

Tried to contact the support from Rare, they basically told me to verify the game's files and to try to uninstall-reinstall
And if that doesn't work they basically told me to wait for an update. Which seems pretty strange since some of you have been waiting for 2 month

@deltacomms I contacted them also, they said to wait while they investigate, contacted Epic, they said to contact Xbox because they have better tools, contacted Xbox support, They said to repair via windows settings, didn't work, then they stopped responding. If this isn't an issue that Rare can fix (or won't request to have fixed for us) I think it's pretty safe to say we're screwed, because none of the IT support people at Epic/Xbox that we can contact have enough sway to pass it on to someone who can accurately diagnose the issue.

@JayD9409 A friend of mine just bought the game and can't play it, I feel like it's Rare problem and it's on them to find where EAC or Microsoft have a problem, or contact them so they can solve the problem...

@lilblancheqc My god, This seems to have actually solved it for me, Thanks for sharing!
For anyone who's not aware of the compression feature in windows, If you have little blue arrows next to your folders this solution will likely work for you.

Goto your game root folder and goto properties, advanced, and uncheck "Compress contents to save disk space"
You'll likely get an error saying the .exes can't be uncompressed, ignore that for a moment and let the rest uncompress.
after it's done, go into your game folder and delete any files that still have the Blue arrows (most importantly the exes like SoTGame.exe and Sea of Thieves.exe and gamelaunchhelper.exe as these are the main offenders), and then reacquire them via the Verify and Repair function in the Xbox app.

Oh guys it works for me.
You saved it after 2 months RARE is unable to solve this "not hard" problem. lol

(Thanks to a HLL moderator on discord or a microsoft expert guiding me through this issue) It took 1 hour and was quite simple as an issue.

Can someone tell me exactly where i can find my game root folder? xD I have no idea.
