As much as I love my pocket crab I wish it were a pet more than anything

Pocket pets are pets but I get you.

You'd like it to do more things along the lines of the cat, dog, monkey, and fox.

They are emotes though, not pets. I can't pick it up and walk around with it in my hands, have to stay still with a default camera looking behind me that that I have to spin around to see what I'm doing with my crabby buddy.

The pocket pet emotes are still considered pets.

They are just pocket pets.

But I understand what you mean. You want them more like cats and dogs.
