With the new features of captaincy it feels wasted without being able to explore an enemy ship after sinking it and see all their ornaments.
It also adds to the fun of diving wrecks. Now make your own wreck. Can include skellie ships!
Also it would be fun to have a reason to hide treasure on ship until getting ready to get to destination. Rather than just pile it all on the bowsprit.
In general this mechanic would slow the pace only a little while adding a lot of depth (pun).
