@joocyyy like people have stated before me, you where a reaper emmisary grade V no less so it wasnt just the key that broadcast your location on the map.
in fact it wasnt a key dupe, nothing got duped. when a server merge happens all loot (including keys) close to you merges with you.
the only thing that didnt merge with you was the islands state, meaning that the island itself was from the new server and on that server its door was open.
what has happened to me and quite a few others was that after such a merge we still had the fof key and got merged to a new server with an active fof, meaning we could open that door without even completing the fof. if that would have happened to you there wouldnt be a post complaining about this.
other than that what you could have also done, was any of the following:
- after server merge put the key in the water, it would sink in less time then it took you to clear out the loot
- while grabbing the loot keep an eye on the horizon, no ships just come out of nowhere and you would have seen them coming in advance allowing you to run, or at least be ready for an attack
you did none of the above and got punished for it.
