sloop speed

  • Is the sloop still faster when pointed directly against the wind? or do you have to angle it with the wind to the side?

There's a phrase, set sails for stupid. Into the wind, square your sails forward. The sloop moves the fastest into the wind. Faster than a Brig. Tacking is not a thing in this game.

  • @thundercharg set the sail to the default position on the sloop, as long as the wind isn't able to catch the sail full billow...so even when it comes from the side, when it doesn't catch the sail, it's faster on default position

  • @pithyrumble tacking works well for a brig, if your crew is efficient

  • @karmicxkoala1

Can it chase down a sloop going directly into the wind or a Gally running full billow?

  • @pithyrumble nope but as with all things a good crew will always out-maneuver a poor or inexperienced one.

I have seen crews tacking who make a battle a lot harder.

  • @pithyrumble I'm not sure. Over a long distance, maybe. I'd be interested to see. The sheer speed of a brig at a beam reach might be able to make up for the difference, but it would be close, I think.
