  • Not Saying It Was The Bugs... But It Was The Bugs.

So, my SoT story goes back to before release, i was so hyped for SoT. I was showing my mates hype vids like " Bruh we can be like Luffy!" my mates where like " Bruh you watch to much anime" (totally not wrong though.). Anywho, i didnt end up buying the game on release, i didn't end up buying it until 3 months ago, for my partner non the less.

So my partner got really into this game ( like she dosnt play many games having to take care of kids and all) but this she absolutely slayed and got pirate legend in just under a month. By which time she was already Athena 5.

She talked me into buying game pass and a new xbox just so i could play this game with her, and i gota say guys, you got something special here. We havnt had this much fun playing video games together in years, and im talking halo 3 years here. Every game we play these days one of us is so much better then the other at that we just don't enjoy playing together (LoL (me), CoD(her) etc.) or the games a single player game (witcher, skyrim, etc.). We have spent 5 of the 7 days a week staying up till 2am (missing out on so much sleep) in the last 6 weeks just so we can spend some game time playing together and bonding though this beast of a game.

In this last week and a bit we have played mabey 5 hours or so, its the bugs, and no I'm not talking about your spyglass, (it was funny for like 15 mins tops, and now every day we have another reddit post, we get it and we all seen it) but things like no 2nd chapter (no x marks the spot for Chest of Legends, amounting to a massive waste of ever so valuable time) on athenas, bounty skellies not spawning no matter what work around you try it dosnt help, not being able to feed pigs, and the new one, not being able to use recourse barrels ( the ones on islands for stocking up with, not the ones on your ship) and not being able to interact them until you re-log because no work arounds help.

There has just been so many bugs of late and for every fix there is another game breaking bug. We get its a free to play game with regular free content added into the game, we understand better then most how this effects the development of games, I studied game design and programming at uni myself , but to put it simply, as a player, its unplayable, its just to frustrating and way too time consuming considering the amount of time that goes into doing anything in the game (this is like runescape level of grinding, well not quite but you get it), theres no point in playing if you're going to spend 3 hours on a voyage and 2 trying work arounds because the game isn't working the way it should.

For this, we decided to wait until cursed shores before we play again and see if the game is playable without frustratingly wasting time, which really sucks because we wanted them sweet doubloons from cursed crews, but to us its unplayable at this point. Sorry if that comes of as a rant, but we really hope for the best for the game.

I'm not sure how you test updates and hotfixs but its missing the mark, I believe the best thing to assure the quality of the game is to launch a beta server for atleast pc where these patches can be tested before going live. A beta environment would greatly benefit the community ( reviews/hype of new content) and the general quality of the game.

Anyway thanks to anyone who actually got through this, you're the real MVP cause I couldn't be bothered to a TL:DR for the lazy.

    Cheers,
    Wewty

  • We don't need any more new features in SOT right now! We just want Rare to fix the bugs and issues with the game!

Guys, this recent community weekend had the lowest player count in SOT history. So many of us long time players are in agreement that the game losing its edge. With the myriad of bugs and issues, the game is starting to veer towards being unplayable or unenjoyable. Please Rare, start listening to your content creators, as they are the representatives of us casual players and they are accurately voicing our concerns.

I don't want this great game to become another barren wasteland. Listening to your audience is your best bet to bringing the game back to life and have it thrive for the future. Stop adding features we didn't ask for! Spend the next several seasons fixing all the bugs, meta and hacking issues. Your audience WILL wait for the fixes to be put in place if we know Rare is going to get serious about fixing the game.

If Rare continues this path of not addressing the games issues for the next several seasons, I guarantee you will see your player base vanish before your eyes. Please don't take my words as offense in any way. We WANT you guys to succeed and make this game great again.

    Thank you.

  • WE'RE BACK!!!! BE WARNED YEE SCURVY DOGS!

Last night our crew of three, @x-crowheart-x, @x-wolfstryder-x and myself started out on a brig, and what do we see whiles stocking our brig, the swirling dance of lights off in the distance. We had spawned at golden sands, yet we could see these wonderful lights all the way over in the far corner of Devils Roar. So we set sail right away, fighting the wind as we went, but making decent time.

Along the way, we spot a sloop that seemed to be heading that way at first, but gave up rather quickly. Then another brig off on the horrizon, clearly heading to claim the chest for themselves. It was a race, but they had better wind and were slightly ahead of us. Undeterred we raced to try and out sail them, but alas, it was not meant to be, their advantage of wind allowed them time to get to the chest and claim it. We arrived just as they were starting to set sail. Meanwhile, behind us, a galleon is coming to try and make their own claim as well.

We give chase and trade shots with the brig before the galleon catches up. The galleon full on plows into the other brig, yet their skilled crew manages to fend off the galleons efforts and saves their ship. We continue to chase, but the galleon decides to take us on now. We land several leathal blows to the galleon, killing some of their crew, crashing their main sail and in the end causing enough damage to sink them. All while still chasing the brig.

The brig crew were efficient and able to get to Marrow's Peak with just enough time to sell the chest before we could stop them. The brig crew decides they want a fight, so we give them one and in the end sink and kill them off. At this point, we decide to do the Devils Roar bilge rat adventure since were are here. (While the new relics look awesome, the actual quest still feels like more of the same thing wrapped in new clothes). While working on our quest, the colors swirl high once again, within the devils roar itself. With no one around we collect and sell the chest quickly.

We finish the quest, and are just about to head to galleons grave when once again, the swirling, glowing colors appear behind us, again in the devils roar, this time next to Marrows Peak. So once again, without a soul around, we collect and sell this chest, also selling the special relic stuff, but leaving the rest of what we had found on board, as we see a sloop off in the distance with an alliance flag. So we set sail to try and group up with this sloop.

As we get closer we are able to join alliances. They already have a small alliance going, but it appears this pirate is AFK, with their sails part of the way down, just sailing in a straight line. Leaving him be, we decide to do the ancient isle quest, since we are in the area. Our first stop is Cannon Cove, while at the island, another sloop makes it's way over. This time, while we are dispatching our skellies, this solo pirate comes over, and begins attacking. I don't believe he intended to hit us as he was trying to attack the skellies, but he did not stop swinging, so I dispatch him so that we can concentrate on the skellies. Dispatching them, we return to our ship to with skulls in hand. The other pirate spawns back, and we talk him into an alliance. Moving on to our next island at snake island, yet another sloop shows up. This one also has an alliance flag out, but is not acting quite right. So we are cautious, sure enough, as they get along side us, they let their cannons sing and switch their flag to a reaper flag. We circle around to get a better angle, and after a few short minutes we are able to dispatch their sloop to the deep and send their souls to the damned.

We set sail for our last island, plunder valley. And while to this point, we had quite the adventure so far, it was about to get even more epic. Before we make landfall at Plunder, we see not one, but two sets of swirling beauties in the sky, both north of our position. So, we set sail, heading for the closest one. As we set sail, we see a brig to our west, coming from golden sands, attempting to beat us to it, but we had the better wind, and the better angle. We get there and find the chest, and as we load up on our ship, the other brig catches up. They unleash some cannon fire, but miss. We circle around and head toward sanctuary to sell, believing the other brig would sail to the other swirl in the sky. But to our delight, they give chase to us. @x-wolfstryder-x is able to board their ship and drop anchor, giving us plenty of cushion to get to sanctuary and sell the chest. Still loading with a large amount of loot though, we continue sailing on to the next swirling cloud. Again, the brig gives chase, and again wolf is able to board them and drop their anchor.

However, we see another brig coming from Daggertooth on a direct line towards us. So once again, we quickly grab the chest and set sail. As we sail, we see our original pursuers try to give chase, the other brig coming from Daggertooth, and a third brig coming around lone cove. @x-crowheart-x cuts to port towards the brig that is coming from lone cove, as we try to cause some confusion between them and our two other pursuit ships. With two ships in direct line following us, and the third brig seemingly giving up, Wolf grabs a GPB and goes overboard. He misses the closest brig, but is able to get the one after that one. Sinking them quickly.

Still with one brig close behind us, we head to daggertooth. Where I jump off with he chest with Wolf to protect me, Crow continue to sail forth keeping out of range of the other brig. Sure enough, the other brig cannons some pirates to us, but a shade to late as I am able to deliver the chest seconds before they can reach us. They send me to the damned, while Wolf sticks around to return the favor upon them.

Both of us return to our ship and we set sail to plunder to complete our quest. After completing plunder, we find we still have one more place to visit. Lost gold fort. However, while finishing up at plunder, Crow sees another brig, seeming to sail to the other side of plunder. As we set sail to lost gold fort, we see them in plain site. Shortly after we make our landing the other brig sets sail, turning towards us, they give chase. We finish up at lost gold fort and collect our booty just as they get close.

Moving northeast, we decide to load our rowboat with the treasure. Wolf and I would drop off and sell at Galleon's Grave, while crow continues to sail away, hoping they give him chase. Wolf decides to try and cause some chaos and leaps overboard with a GPB. CONTACT, he gets them good, nearly sinking their ship. But causing enough damage that they decide to stop pursuing us. We sell off most of the booty we had collected, when we see the swirling cloud again. This time, it is down south of plunder, where we were just at. So we set sail once more.

Before we could get there, the cloud goes away. Tracking the chest on our map, we try to out race the brig to Golden Sands. Once again, we are not the only ones in pursuit of that chest, as another brig and a sloop are also trying to out sail the brig with the chest. They get to the island before us, but do not sell right away. The other brig was too close and they have to fend them off. After some back and forth, we sink the sloop (after they try to attack us) and we sink the other brig. Heading to the island, wolf and I try and steel the chest, but wolf and I get separated. While Wolf is tied up with one of their crew, the other two crew members try to make their way to the tavern. I Spot them and give chase, but as I try to attack the pirate holding the chest, his partner is able to stop me from behind. (I really do not like the knock back or pause that getting hit causes. Land one hit and the fight is generally over with). I lift a grog to them, as they were able to sell the chest.

All in all, what a fun night. Sunk many ships and sent many souls to the damned, without losing our ship once. We were able to collect and sell 4 chests, despite two of them being hotly contested.

Though I am not impressed with the relics quests, the relics are kind of cool. But what makes this update really fun is the reapers chest. My only worry is, we noticed that people seem to have gone back to the server hopping in order to find chests. Reminiscent of the days when you server hopped for forts. Though it is fun to have that engaging PvP, just like when fort server hopping was a thing. So, my hats off to Rare, though I do hope they find a way to mitigate server hopping, but man, what a fun night. It has been far too long since I was able to say that while playing SoT.

And in conclusion, we are back yee scurvy dogs, watch yer horizon's and if you do happen upon our crew, yee might want to think twice about taking us on....

  • 2 massive game changing bugs (Plus Way More)
    1. When using LB to pull out an item and then pressing it again it won’t put it away but acts like it is a secondary weapon to your first weapon.

    2. When pressing RB and pulling out a map and then proceeding to press it again, it will swap between your primary and secondary weapon or the map and the item from pressing LB

Please go in-depth with testing these as there are probably more possible ways of it breaking more.

Submissions accepted from the 21st Dec (Now!),
    First winner selected Christmas Day.

WHAT DOES A PIRATE HAVE TO DO AROUND HERE.... ?

    UPDATE

It might be a bit much to ask of Pirates this time of year.
So gonna make things real easy....

    • Just pop your name up with a suitable "Festive Pirate Greeting", & that's all.

(words/pictures...memes whatever's your pleasure) Dead simple.
You can still do any of the below, if you like, & it would be appreciated in the original spirit of the event :)

    ......

    • Take in game Screenshots ( A series of shots, or if you can.. One grand picture )
Don’t stress about getting something for each Day shown, a general sense & creativity is well cool!
    • Or make an in game Video telling the 12 days in a “Creative Pirate Life” way
Yet again, don’t stress about getting something for each Day shown, a general sense & creativity will do nicely!
    • The player decides what the 12 days means to their Pirate Life.
See “Helpful Ideas” from @x-Crowheart-x...... below for possible ideas
    • Each day has a "Gift" .... winner decided by a Gift Bearer.
ie. each Competition day 25th, 26th... etc (for 12 days) an entry is selected as a winner for that day, by that days Gift Bearer.
    • Please note it is the festive period the "Gift bearer" may be enjoying themselves. So it could happen, it might take a day or two until that "days" gift is gifted.
    • Any Pirate can submit a new entry as little or as often as they like over the 12 Days event.

    GIFT DAYS

****** Days with multiple gifts, are likely to be divided between multiple winners. ******

    HELPFUL IDEAS from @x-Crowheart-x

not necessary to follow.. a Pirate is Free to decide what each day means to them!

Day Two - Two Chests of a Thousand Grogs Sloshing
Day Three - Three Chests of Sorrows Weeping

  • A Very Big Thank You To Captain Teddy 25, The Unitor Of Pirates...We Wish You Well in yer New Adventures...

First of all, i am sorry that i have placed this topic possibly in a wrong category...Any Deckhand , Moderator or other Forum Magician may transport this to where it should be .Or, even worse , if this is a Duplicate Topic then please do erase this one , Dear Moderator , it is not my goal to cause any problems on the Forum.

i was planning to write a personal thought about the last EGX meeting from last weekend , and since i hadn't touched a computer for four days ,i also hadn't checked Twitter nor this Forum...Blasphemy , yes i know.
But i started to read and had quite a shock...Mr Teddy 25, the Leading Man behind the team that made Crossplay possible has left Rare.
i saw this person only once , but the image will stay in my mind and Heart even if dementia will maybe one day wipe all my memorybanks.

A very kind and smart person has walked away in search for other adventures, other challenges ,making maybe more impossible things possible in the future ,but still...i can't shake the feeling of me that Rare not only lost a great capable man in his job, but also had to say goodbye of a Great Friend. Us pirates too have lost a Great Rare Person in the shape of Mr Teddy25.
i have made many , really many Friends in here , and Mr Teddy 25 and his team are also responsible for that because they made Crossplay happening. Mr Teddy 25 , himself , has also worked on many titles of the Legendary GameStudio LionHead , the Fable Series, Black and White 1 and 2, The Movies ...and so many more has been touched by his hands...

i just wanted to say that i feel a bit sad of seeing Mr Teddy 25 leave. But i wish him all the best in search for new adventures , new challenges he is heading towards .Thank you ,Sir. Not only for the work you've done with Passion, Dedication and your love for gamers worldwide but also for your being yourself. You, Sir , offered the possibility to unite two different fronts and mould many Pirates together in an Alliance of Friendship that they never want to leave, eventhough they sail on different Machines...
Thank you soooo much, Mr Teddy 25...i hope many pirates may find some time to read this and leave a kind message behind for you...A Great Man ,like yourself , should never slip away unnoticed in silence...

An old white haired pirate watches the Sea , his scarred grimlooking face uphold eyes that look sad...A broken voice slides over the Sea where it disappears in Silence..."May The Winds Guide You To Many Adventures , Fortunes and New Friendships, but i Hope that One Day You Will Return to The Old Port...Take Care Legendary Unitor..."

The Old Man turns around and limps away from the Jetty , from one cheek of that hardened face falls a tear in the dry sand...He turns around towards the Sea and throws another few words to Her : " You take care of this One, You Hear!!"...

  • We need quick access of barrels back

We should use the fallout 4 UI model, when you look at a barrel it shows up a small window showing the items in it, you can scroll up and down and take what you need (and an option to take whatever you can)

Also while holding items there should be a quick key to store lile the old days

  • Original pioneers left in the dark

Edit: I may have posted this a bit early and out of anger. If there has been delays or whatever. I will issue an apology.

Today has been a horrible experience for the most dedicated fans, the original pioneers took so many hours to help perfect this game from early on. Believe me if it were not for the pioneers, this game would have had far less content at launch. All the feedback, all the effort and all the time we put in. Im sorry but myself and other og pioneers are disgusted at this. There has been 0 communication from rare. Not only that but removing the pioneer badge completely and not in any way acknowledging us for our dedication is a huge middle finger from rare.

I still remember when i first saw this game, when it was revealed to the world for the 1st time at e3. I instantly fell in love. When i was invited to the alpha's, i was over the moon and when the pioneer invite came, i couldn't believe my luck. I have made so many good friends from the pioneer program and had the best times. I can still remember the last posts on the pioneer fourms, everyone was so sad as it was coming to an end but we had such amazing memories. We were told one day we will be needed again and our places would be safe.

Myself and many other og's have lost faith in rare and in this game. The community has become so toxic. Rare has been deleting posts with criticism. Many pioneers will stop playing this game. It is a reminder of a developer that welcomed us and showed us care and appreciation, only for them to strip us of our rank and our work. I would seriously ask rare to at least explain what is going on. Has there been delays? Will the people who also helped shape this game get ANY form of acknowledgement and appreciation. I know this all sounds very "Entitled" and i should be grateful for getting to play the game early. I am. I had the best memories and experiences and made great friends, but we have been quietly shoved out the door and left on the street (Or off the ship and into the seas). This is a sad day indeed. If you read all of this thank you and rare, i am sorry for being harsh but we've had enough.

Edit 2: Yes i know i changed the title but i realised it was a bit too aggressive and i was angry at the time

  • Suggestion: We should be Able to Sell Back Non-Microtans Items

Once we buy new clothes and weapon skins, we should be able to sell off our starter skins for 0 gold. If we ever want them back, we can re-buy for 1 gold per item. (Obviously this won't work for the ship/sail skins, as the default is how the ships first load, but that's ok)

My reasoning for this is basically laziness, lol. When swapping weapons, I don't like that the starter weapon skin is there and always selected by default. Either let us sell it back for 0 gold, or have the first skin we purchase replace the starter. All subsequent skins can be added as new items in the inventory, continuing to work as it does now.

i don't mind having the option to select between my purchased skins, I just think we should be able to get rid of the starter weapon or clothing item (or at least, store it in a chest), so as not to see it in the inventory when swapping.

To further expand on this, we should also be able to sell back purchased non-microtrans clothes and ship/weapon skins at a reduced price. For example, we sell it back but only get back half of what we paid.
