    Chapter 4

3 months had passed since I had got cursed and there are already rumors about me and my Black galleon sinking any skeleton ships I had crossed and raiding skeleton forts and setting them on fire. Now me and my crew keep recruiting new skeletons into my crew recently recruited a skeleton who was 6 foot tall and has 4 arms, he claims to be a skeleton lord like me, despite not having any powers that a traditional skeleton lord would have but after sailing with him for a month he proved that he does need any powers a skeleton lord would have he sunk a skeleton ship by himself just by using their own anchor to crush their ship in half after one of the skeletons shoot his pet chicken name George after that he became my first mate. I now was looking a dagger made from a tooth of the hungering one remembering the time me and my adoptive father killed the hungering one and ripped it tooth out and made it into a dagger. I then looked at my first pistol mounted on a wall I bought from Wanda before she became a skeleton and the same pistol I used shoot her with. finally I then looked at my first skull I got from killing a skeleton captain and a first skull memories I read through that my adoptive mother taught me then I looked at the wrath Boomslang skull I was then reminded of the event that took place during flame hearts attack hearing cries for help, friend getting killed by flameheart’s minions. I was getting distress it stopped when I heard a knocking on my door. Said "who is it"? John the person replied. The first mate I said to myself come in. John entered and said is something wrong and then look at boomslang’s skull and said thinking about the attack again. I said yes if the ferryman was there everyone and my mother would be resurrected but they now resides in the sea of the damned I said. I know John said I also came to give you a letter. Who is it from? The man didn't say he didn't even give me a name besides the mysteries stranger John replied. Ok let me read.. before I could finish my sentence I passed out. John came to me and said captain, captain! Those were the last words I heard. I woke up on a ship but not my ship I then realized that I was on the ferry of the damned. I saw the ferryman and asked him "why did you bring me here?" he turned to me and said I didn't bring you here. If you didn't then who. Before I could finish a kraken appeared but unlike other kraken this one was completely a skeleton it grabbed me around my leg and dragged me to the sea. I couldn't see anything but my memories I was then thrown into an island with ancient ruin. I said to myself "it looks like it was made by the ancient but something seems off some parts are organic". I then heard a woman's voice telling me to "follow her voice". I followed the voice through the ruin and keep getting chills on my spine thinking that the eyes on the wall are following me. I finally got to the main chamber and saw the women she had no human characteristics or traits, she's completely black like the night sky and stars scattered around her body. She then said "come closer Drabber" you know my name" I replied. I know everything about you such a sad upbringing sold to slavery by your parents and now lost 2 people who took care of you she said. Ok then who are you I said? Who am I? Why I am the oldest being in the place you call the sea of thieves I was around when the first humans were here you called the ancient quite a fitting name for them. I then asked her "why did you bring me here"? She said to make an offer, let me explain you know of the ferryman who resurrect the dead there are some pirates who can't be resurrected and resides in the sea of the damned. Ya what are you getting at I said. She said " she want someone to sea the sea of the damned and make it a sort of after life for pirate who can't or doesn't want to be resurrected. Alright I'm down I said. But there is something I need of you she said. And what would that be? I said. Your heart. How I am a skeleton all my organs are gone. She chuckled and replied "open your jacket". I did as she ask and was shocked to see my heart still there decayed but still beating. She then reached my heart pulled it out of chest and started whispering to it. I then noticed that my peg leg is breaking apart and some strange glow started to appear holding fragments together then my hook started to do the same thing. Then I felt extreme amount of pain in my left eye was. My eye patch changed and become apart of me and became my new eye. After she was done whispering to my heart she then said "now place for your heart" she then made a chest that was made of metal and engraved with skull, souls, and at the center of the chest Is a face a skull where the lock is. She then gave me a key to the chest. She then told me how I could enter and leave the sea of the damned. She told me that I have to now return to my ship But before I leave I asked " I've never got your name" she then said "I have many names but the most common name the ancient called me is andromeda good bye drabber". The floor collapse And I fell in hole and when I hit the bottom I woke up. When I got to my senses I saw that the changes were real and that I was holding a chest and a key. When I got up from my bed I saw the letter on my desk and decided to read it. I was shocked to know that letter was from the pirate lord and that he want to have a meeting with me in a pirate legend I was thrilled but then remembered about me being a skeleton and stepping foot on an outpost then I said to myself "what do I got to lose". I got out of my captain quarter to talk to my crew. The first person to notice me was John he was happy to me up and moving and curious about what happen I told him "it's a long story and that they should make heading to plunder outpost and that I will explain everything along the way he accepted and started heading towards plunder. It was already night when my crew got to the outpost I was a little nervous about stepping foot on the docks thinking that I might me and my crew will be shoot on sight but when we got on the docks nobody was shooting but actually welcoming me and my crew. I told some members of my crew to stay on board and guard the ship while I told the rest of the crew to sell loot we got from sinking skeletons and raiding forts while me and John head to the tavern,. We got to the tavern and John Immediately notice the stranger at the end of tavern saying that he was the one who delivered him the letter. we both approached him and showed him the letter proving that it is me. The stranger then said "ha you made it few people have actually meet the pirate are you ready to meet him". I told him we are, take us to him". He laugh and said do you think I'm taking you to him"? Yes? is the door you are leaning on the way to the pirate lord"? ha no this is just the back door of the tavern to enter the hideout need to play a specific shanty take this and play where the tables are". I played the shanty and before my eyes the floor revealed a hidden staircase. It was dark so I took out my lantern and me and John descended through the staircase until we saw a waterfall and then heard singing. we walked through the waterfall and once we got passed it started following a dock as we followed we saw a ship wrecked and saw it had a nameplate as we got closer we saw the full name the shipwreck name was The Athena's fortune. We saw a huge open on the side we saw crew of the Athena fortune. I asked ghost name blind bob where the pirate lord is he said he is in the captain quarters to the left i thanked him and John decide to stay behind and talk to the crew of the Athena fortune. As I entered I saw the pirate lord and he noticed me asked me to come in and take a seat. I did as he asked took a seat. The pirate lord and I talked for hours me telling he about the event taking place about flame heart and me meeting andromeda. And the pirate lord talking about events in his life. He then told me about a clan known as "The Cutthroats" and That I should join up with them and said 'who knows you might see your brother. My brother I thought he was dead after I was sold to the Grand Maritime Union. And the pirate lord said no he is very alive and with the cutthroats he then handed me a map to the cutthroats . I got up from my seat and thanked him and went to get John from the legend's tavern. I got John and I told him about the cutthroats and that we should join up . We got back to the tavern we saw the skeletons from our crew were done selling loot and were drinking grog I told them to get up and head back to the galleon They all got up bringing their cups back to the ship. when everyone got on broad I told John to make heading to the location of the cutthroats The sails were down and we are off. I took the helm and said to myself this is not the end of my journey but only the beginning.

¡Agarraos!

"Cloaked in folds of midnight waters. Side by side, we sons and daughters. We set forth for no king's orders, but we'll sail together.
Hold fast! Tides are turning. Flames roar! fires are burning. We'll all be returning if we sail together.
All on the waves shall know our story. Sing of the battles fought ashore, we all shall thrive on fame and glory when we sail together.
Words of warning have been spoken. Ancient creatures have awoken. Still, until our bond is broken, we shall sail together!"[/i]

-[b] "Inmóvil"[/b] (no ofrece misión, es la letra de la canción Becalmed-Inmóvil

There'll be cheering and calling. No more squabbling and brawling. When we have the wind in our sails.
When we have our feet on the ground. We'll sow our good fortune around. There'll be feasting and pleasure.
No more rationing and measure. When we have the wind in our sails."

    TRADUCIDO

    TRADUCIDO

Era Three Sheets Neate, tramposo y ruín. Luchamos por sobrevivir.

i am making a list of all the books i find. In the beginning they were wrote in english, but now they are in spanish, in my console idiom. I can put them here, and you can traslate if you want. i am adding books from the events too. Sorry, i have the text prepared for bbcode in forums that use it. I hope that it is useful.

¡Agarraos!

    [url=https://youtu.be/dLRkr5AgQ-A]We Shall Sail Together - Navegaremos juntos[/url]

    Versión en inglés

[i]"Our ship, she dreams of in her sails, of wind in her sails unfurled. And shining as we cross the sea, we cross the sea for home.
Then we'll all raise our voices, a song in our hearts. And set our eyes on distant shores with wind in her sails again.
There'll be cheering and calling. No more squabbling and brawling. When we have the wind in our sails.
When we have our feet on the ground. We'll sow our good fortune around. There'll be feasting and pleasure.
No more rationing and measure. When we have the wind in our sails."

  • Amplification of Roleplay with a brand new huge port [SoT SUGGESTION]

So. I recently played the Captains of the Damned tall tales and got something like:

"Dang, and if we get a huge outpost on Sea of Thieves ? But a completly different one"

    Here are my suggestions:

    1: The Outpost

We should be able to get a huge outpost ! I don't know if you saw it but there is alot of space beetween Shark Bait Cove, Thieves Haven, lookout point.... and the red sea. I think we should get a huge outpost at this location ! The outpost would look better than the other ones with much more options I will suggest after this part. This outpost could be a place of MEETING where PvP wouldn't get his place (I'm not saying I hate PvP and prefer PvE) This could be the perfect spot to meet crew members and more !!! The outpost could look like Isla Tesoro but not in the sea of the damned.

    2: Player Business

In this outpost, players could be able to make their own buisness. Among thoses buisnesses, you can choose the ones down this line:

    • Shipwright: Fix and restock a player's ship for gold (amount goes from 5 - 10K gold)

    • Tavern holder: Cook dishes (a new system of dishes maybe ?) & serve grogs, made with fresh ingredients from the Sea of Thieves !

    • Merchant Alliance Holder: You would be able to assign ships to missions and put crates on their ship. You receive 8K if the ship reaches the Outpost

    • Outpost Cleaner: You would have to clean trash on the ground (200 Gold / trash cleaned)

    • Hitman: You could hire someone to sink or steal from another player you want (10k to sink him, 11K to steal him)

    • Guard: You would need to make sure that nobody is engaging a fight. You can stop situations with basic weapons and handcuffs

    • Musician: You could play music on the outpost with current instruments and new ones such as Violin, Bagpipes and Guitar.

3: Houses & Ship customization system

In the outpost, you could be able to rent (1k / gold per Day) or buy (500K to 1m depends of the house sise) a house. In this house, you could make a Lock / Open house system, Whitelist and Blacklist system, and of course, custom furniture placement (Plants, tables, beds, TV'... oh wait not this one :), Paintings) etc... Each furniture piece would cost 10K gold.

With the house sytem we could also get a improved shipwright guy. This shipwright could open a editor (Compatible with Computers & Consoles) where you can customize: Hull shape, Sails, Furniture in ship, and maybe (but could be a bad idea) custom flags !

    4: Companies & Activities

On this outpost, you would find your dear companies you see every day:

    • Merchant Alliance
    • Order of Souls
    • Gold Hoarders
    • Athena's Fortune

But, of course, We would get our loved Hunters and Reapers !!

-Hunters: Hunters would be located on the deck with more possibilities !! For example. Hunter's Call would get their own emissary system (Only rises when a rare fish, a megalodon, a kraken, a shark, a manta, a whale) note: Yeah there would also be whales. With brand new missions (fishing zones, whale hunt, retrieve hunter's lost props) etc...

    • Reaper's Bones: The Reapers would be located on the sewers. Instead of selling chests to the Servant of the flame, you would need to drop them to the Warden of the Flame, that could be someone important in the lore

5: Sail away to the horizon !

When lowering the sails (with anchor raised) you would see a cutscene with pirates waving to your ship, that is getting away in the horison. There would actually be 6 ships slots.

There would be a global tavern, where every pirate can meet a new crew with a payment system. For example, we could give 1 - 5 ancient coins (Flameheart Junior Lore Reference) to hire some players !!!

I hope you liked this suggestion ! Sorry for the poor grammar. I hope Rare Developers will be able to make this one day and offer a new Roleplay possibility !!

Have a good day and see yall on the seas dear sea dogs !!!

  • RE: Commendations and Athena Commendations

@zormis sagte in Commendations and Athena Commendations:

    @xultanis-dragon
I have some friends who have played since launch, one of them plays a lot but they're not even A10 yet because they enjoy doing other things besides grinding. None of them has complained to me.

i play since launch. i am, as seen above, not A10, but thats due to my lack of commitment or time for that matter, i am building a house atm, but that should not be the topic.
your friend and me not being athena 10 just reveals one thing!

It is not really fun to get to athena 10.

For some ppl becoming PL wasnt fun. For me, I never felt the grind. I just played and enjoyed the game and happened to become PL eventually. With the Athena Fortune Rep, you are forced to do 1! type of voyage only! if you wanna progress.
With my spare time, I try to be part of a athena voyage crew as much as I can but being LvL7, it starts to slow down, cause I enjoy the non athena content way more than simply running athenas all day long. Its nothing like becoming pirate legend. I did alot of forts back then (6 month ago) it was fun, i enjoy forts. i wish there was shrouded spoils when i was 40/40/40 but there wasnt, it was still fun, i am not complaining, enjoy the ride! but having to do alot of the athena grind again seems cruel. why would someone make me do it again?! havent they grinded athenas rep?
becoming pirate legend wasnt a grind for me, it just happened as I went and did ship wrecks, voyages and skull forts. Rep just amassed during my sessions, i couldnt stop it from leveling up. with athenas fortune rep, it is way different. you dont stumble upon it, you have to do it on purpose. and there is my main pet peeve with it: it is just another time consuming grind for the sake of grinding and killing time. There is nothin to do for pirate legends and to solve that problem, it seems, we are just put on hold for the time being. it was said, once you reach PL thats where the main game starts, once you reach PL thats the real deal. and then, we were given athenas fortune rep. after the 'grind' came the real GRIND. and now that alot of PLs have done that or have done it in part, BIG part, they add commendations that 'encourage' us to do it AGAIN!??? ..........

i understand all the arguements that go into this, but to me and many other PLs i encountered, this just feels like another waiting game, another stalling tactic, something to make PLs A7+ or whatnot to waste a little more time on, just to throw some more grind in our direction. whats next? Athenas Fortune 2.0 with 20 levels and more non-retroactive commendations which we all would have if the data tracking would have been in place?! where does this end?

To me, and as the rest this is personal opinion, i dont enjoy athenas voyages. i might do some every now and then since they are all the voyage types in one, which is sort of cool every now and then, but not solely. they are grindy in their nature. I enjoy variety. in shrouded spoils i had the most fun picking up a ragtag crew and go from meg hunting to opportunistic pvp to kraken fighting to skullforts to skeleton ships to doing athenas along the way.

to make me wait until i hit the mark on commendations i already did, to get certain cosmetics which i, in theory, already earned doesnt feel right, it feels cheap and unfair.
i know, i dont need to grind, but i already met the requirements for certain commendations, its artifically prolonged to get them again.

  • RE: Safer Seas ever to have restrictions lifted?

@awyrlas said in Safer Seas ever to have restrictions lifted?:

Safer Seas is limited like that to push players to take the plunge into High Seas.

All things considered: Safer Seas is pretty generous when it comes to its limitations and the content that you're restricted to. Sure, 30% of rep and gold can suck, but all of the events in Sea of Thieves reward players under the assumption that other players can show up at any moment. So to prevent players from abusing the lack of players, Rare just cuts the profits earned rather than taking out loot or removing the event entirely. Rare even lets players earn all of the associated commendations and cosmetics provided that they don't require the presence of another player.

The only real loss then is Pirate Legend and access to the Athena's Fortune trading company, but even then it's pretty fair. Pirate Legend is supposed to be a bit of an achievement, so I get why they don't let you claim it or do voyages for the Athena's Fortune. Especially when you consider that it's the closes that this game has to "end game" content that revolves around being a high profile target on the seas. There's very little you can do for the trading company that doesn't explicitly invite players to PvP you. You're pretty much limited to the basic voyage and Sea Fort raids without raising emissary if you want to grind Athena's Fortune in peace.

I get that you don't like PvP, but Safer Seas is literally right there for you. If you want to play the end game content or earn enough gold and rep to get cool cosmetics, you'll just have to accept that other players exist. It's not like you even have to be good at pvp to avoid them anyways.

People should play HS because they like HS. Not because they were 'pushed towards it'.
Instead, the devs have taken the stance of "You don't like having your fun be at the mercy of every sociopath or CoD screecher with a mic? Take a 70% slap in the face!"
Which is even worse with the recent treasure nerfs. It really feels like the time of those who don't wish to be ganked non-stop is just not respected; Play for 3 hours, make MAYBE 1000G.
The price to not be a punching bag is 70%. Yay. 🙄

These artefacts can be found washed up on shores alongside dearly departed crew and their wrecks.

Blunderbuss - A short-barrelled firearm similar to a shotgun with a flared muzzle (thanks @genuine-heather)

spyglass - a useful tool in any Pirate’s inventory, allowing them to see great distances out to sea, whether to spot incoming vessels, hidden treasures, or to simply enjoy the stunning vistas that the Sea of Thieves provides. • New Grade 5 Emissary Tools

Each Trading Company with an Emissary Flag unlocks the new following grade 5 benefits:

Gold Hoarders - Compass of Fortune

This emerald and gold themed compass points to the most valuable loot item currently on the server which is not buried. This does not include any loot which has a beacon or map marker tied to it.

    Order of Souls - Divination

Players receive whispers from Madame Olivia when an important Skeleton is within 2 map tiles, such as a Skeleton Captain, Ashen loot skeleton, or boss skeleton.

    Merchant Alliance - Restocking

Your ship gains a supply crate other crews can purchase supplies from as if purchasing merchant crates. If your ship is sunk, players will gain one of each of the crates. The same Merchant purchase restrictions apply to this supply crate. Any money earned from selling supplies goes to the players & goes through their Merchant Emissary Bonus

Hunter's Call - Deal with the Depths

You now spawn any missing Shrine or Treasury loot that would need a bottle quest when you see the banner of the Shrine or Treasury. This ability is on a 15 minute cooldown.

Athena's Fortune - Secrets of the Seas

Athena's Fortune players receive hazy visions of the location of emergent encounters or the mast voyage whenever one spawns or they begin the voyage.

Reaper's Bones - The Flame Calls

If no Emissary Flags can be found on the server, Reaper's Bones players can vote to dive to a random location in a new server that contains Emissary flags. However, they cannot spawn within 4 map tiles of an Emissary Player to avoid accidental pop up invasions.

    Guild Flag

The guild leader can set one of any of these abilities for their guild to take advantage of. Honestly not even sure on this one or what guilds could receive

  • My thoughs after 5 years in SoT, suggestions

    Hello everyone,

I'd like to share, three years after the last one, feedback and thoughts. The goal is, on one hand, to externalize my thoughts and on the other, to have a constructive, positive debate. I don't claim to have the ultimate truth, I am just one voice among many. Also keep in mind that english is not my native language, it's always a bit tedious to get my thoughts "right" :)

    1. Chest of Fortune

Although the added system brings more interactions to the seas, I think it does not reach its potential in its current form: It is too demanding. 30 chests per season is a lot, especially for most casuals or even solo players. They will go all out in the first season because it's new, then gradually lose patience. The problem is that the goal is to obtain cosmetics. The moment these cosmetics seem no longer worth it, they will give up. And if one day, 3 seasons later, they find the cosmetics interesting again, it will be too late: if 30 chests are a lot, catching up on 90 will be the final nail in the coffin and progressively, this "event" will also disappear. Although it may seem little for some, an amount of 5 chests per season (just an example) would make the situation sustainable and might even give enough confidence to the most amateur to embark on the adventure.

    1. Cursed Cannonballs

I think (especially as a solo player) that cursed cannonballs should be more frequent during naval battles against skeleton ships. Indeed, it almost always happens that you are bombarded with cursed balls and once the ships are sunk, you don't get any. This is illogical and once again not very respectful of solo players since larger crews can afford to simply send someone to "unload" the enemy's cursed cannonballs.

    1. Streaming

I feel this will be the most controversial point. Let me drop a bomb and then backtrack: Streaming is killing the game. I can already sense you ready to jump on your keyboards, give me a few seconds to plead my case. I can't deprive myself of my little SoT stream in the evening, it's become essential for my comfort and I think I am subscribed or gifting subscriptions to many channels, the idea is not to argue against streaming. But it's clear that while there are a few streamers who play the game organically, a large part, or the majority, do not. Since their paycheck depends on the content, it is crucial to always impress. This is how instead of sailing, buying a quest and going to dig up chests, solve puzzles, etc., we end up with streamers who join their army of followers as soon as a Fort of the Damned or a Fort of Fortune appears, or when a server with multiple Reapers appears, etc. The problem is that in the long run, these streamers advertise the game. Where SoT was still presented as a shared world adventure game, it has become, with the intervention of streaming, a PvP game or hide and seek before a theft. I'm not even talking about the hourglass that only shows PvP. I was shocked to see that among some relatively popular streamers, there were those who didn't even know what a quest item was for or how to obtain a gold hoarder's key. So, we end up with new players "seduced" by the streams, who only seek conflict, without understanding the adventurous and slow aspect of the game. And a few weeks or months later, these players abandon the game because "it lacks content" expecting to experience the exciting conflicts of streamers who get hyperactive servers delivered every hour. Also, let's be realistic, if everyone plays thieves waiting, hidden, for a treasure to steal, no one will do the quests and no treasure will be dug up. I feel like it's a snake biting its own tail and that while initially it advertises the game, in the long term, it makes false promises and generates additional toxicity with incoming hostile players who know nothing about how the world works and get frustrated when people "run" because they have actual reasons to.

    1. Reputation

Another thought in the direction of the game's viability is the question of reputation. For now, reputation within a company is linked to the amount of money it gives us in return after selling an item. I think that, in the perspective of a game that lasts and also a game that makes streamers want to really play the game, not just benefit from other players' gameplay, we should separate the two. You sell an item to the gold hoarders, you get money. Cool. If you want to increase your reputation level to unlock certain cosmetics, you must complete quests from the gold hoarders. Get your hands dirty, dig up chests, solve riddles. Thus, those who have reached a MAX reputation level by only selling stolen items without ever having enjoyed the game mechanics, will avoid talking about a lack of content or boredom. The "Grind," whose complexity remains to be defined, would then go through the accomplishment of real tasks for each company that unlocks cosmetics and then, the amount of money received from sales to afford the purchase of cosmetics. My suggestion is not far from what we currently have with commendations. This would also solve the famous question of "alliance servers" because at worst, they have money but can't do anything with it as long as they don't play the game as intended. And honestly, there's no shortage of money in this world.

    1. Money

One of the questions that often comes up is about the game's economy. Every two years or so this topic comes back "the game's economy is broken" and there's a need to make the richest lose money by asking them to buy incredible skins (that will then be changed and devalued, hum hum), to bring them back to the level of the poorest. But what if the economy was perfect as it is? Imagine: You have money, you can spend it to buy your cosmetics, yes. Or, you place this money, (which is therefore no longer in your current account in the character menu) in your personal pirate cache. A bit like Scrooge McDuck's vault. The more money you place, the more it creates mountains of gold. And the higher these mountains reach, the more your cache evolves to house this money. The goal for the richest would then be the expansion and customization of a pirate's vault. If, let's say, you withdraw this money, the level of gold in the vault decreases, and you revert to more basic versions. A sort of evolving commendation that you can either grow or at least keep at its level so as not to lose customizations. We are in a world of pirates and on the fictional side, a pirate has a cave with lots of coins. It would be like talking about a current account and a savings account. And maybe, the money placed in the personal cache, can no longer be withdrawn afterward... to be defined. This would give an additional personal goal and added immersion to the game: enjoying your money. We all know that as long as you haven't sold a treasure, it doesn't belong to you, but once you sell a treasure, you're in the stress of doing everything before getting robbed. We never have a moment to admire the fortune except for that little line at the top right. It's a pity!

    1. A Shared World

The game has always been presented as an " shared world adventure game". I don't understand, with every fiber of my being, why after five years RARE seems to interpret "a shared world" as a hostile world: where is the cooperation? Half of the players complains about people fleeing from other ships, but give them a single good reason not to do so? (Yes, I know PvP - but in fact, as different figures have shown, 50% of players are not motivated by PvP). A betrayal would make more sense if the betrayed pirate initially couldn't even imagine that it could happen. And simply, the richness of the game, originally, was this organic, sometimes wacky meeting of other people, playing music together, sailing on a single boat, etc. In any pirate story, true or fictional, there are allies and enemies. Some must work together to achieve their ends. Where are the cooperative quests? This is sorely lacking.

    1. Tools, Not Rules

This has been the game's motto since its early days and has made it successful, but I feel we are losing a bit of this aspect due to contradictions caused by "case-by-case" scenarios. You can bury any object, any skull, but not the Siren's Song skull, because that's the way it is. You can deposit your loot in a mermaid statue in an underwater sanctuary but not the Siren's Song skull, don't ask why. It takes one chainshot to break a mast, but on the sloop it will be two, don't ask where's the logic in that, etc, etc... I see tools, but I also see rules and rules that are not very consistent with the universe even though I can see the reasons for them, the execution is far from perfect. It would perhaps be wise to watch this in the future.

    1. Devils Roar and Burying Treasures

The most neglected region of a game (that suffers from a lack of space). Two short proposals: When you dig up a chest in the Devils Roar and a geyser appears underneath, it would be nice and more logical for the chest to be instantly unearthed, just like the skeletons are propelled or killed (us too, by the way). Second proposal: We have a magic shroud that can engulf islands and make others appear. Wouldn't it be great to have a shroud that evolves once or twice a year? Not being able to go to Devil's Roar for one or two seasons, then being excited to return and find changes. Perhaps it would also be wise to get rid of the quest board and revisit the concept of burial. If you bury your treasure, you have no map, no clue, nothing! But if you let it rest for X days in a specific area, it evolves thanks to the magic of Sea of Thieves. In Devil's Roar, it would become an Ashen Treasure. And if you manage to keep it long enough without mistaking the exact place where it was buried, it becomes an Athena's Treasure? Something like that.

I take advantage of this point to add two more personal comments:
A complete Gold Hoarders quest in Devil's Roar takes about two hours for a solo player. Two hours at the end of which the Guild Emissary level has still not reached 5. Two hours in Devil's Roar to get only 100,000 coins seems a bit too punitive if we want to see this region really occupied by a majority of players. Also, the Gold Hoarders' caches should, in my opinion, be adapted to the size of the crew. For a solo player, they are almost impossible to complete and given the time they can take (especially in Devil's Roar, once again), it's not very encouraging to redo another.

Finally, five years have passed and we still don't know (don't care anymore?) what's so special about Athena loot, why that glow? We require answers, meaningful answers, followed by new questions. Merely leaving something unresolved for five years isn't a mystery; it's a narrative convenience. Mystery must progress and develop. I, for my part, needto feel like an explorer, on earth, on the seas, on the spiritual world of Sea of Thieves. I'm fed up with menus and artificial "do it again" structures. I need to see the world evolve, to fall in love again with something new. How many battles, how many adventures, and yet, as pirates, we never wrote OUR story on the rocks like the ancients did for theirs. Let this world live by itself; let it grow.

Thank you to those who took the time to read, I am eager for your comments. Once again, the principle is not to "command" the changes that I would like to see (as some streamers convinced that their audience represents the entirety of the game's audience do), but to open a constructive debate that can potentially allow Rare to consider the future in a direction desired by the player community. Thank you, take care, and see you soon. Cheers.

  • The Sea of Thieves wanted to make the Final Mystery Voyage memorable.

I awoke to the sound of thunder and torrential rain in the Daggertooth Tavern. The Gold Hoarders had given Larinna the final clue from H to pass on to the pirates that had chosen to help.

The first clue led to the Isle of Last Words; the storm hanging overhead made for rough sailing, but I was eventually able to make landfall. The isle was living up to its namesake; it was infested with skeletons, ocean crawlers, and phantoms! After much fighting, a trip to the Ferry of the Damned, an overzealous gunpowder skeleton, and another trip to the Ferry, I was able to dig up the second clue. Once solved, the clue pointed me to the Ferry of the Damned, because of course it did.

The mysterious, unchanging, Ferry of the Damned, the clue had me counting out objects on the ferry to give me the coordinates to the next island. A trip through the gate and to the map table revealed the next location, The Fort of the Damned. I loaded the loot from the island, and with the lower deck of my ship already filled with water, I decided to take the cursed Chest of Rage I had dug up. Finally, I could leave this unending storm.

The wheel, no longer with a mind of its own, the compass regaining its senses, and the glorious sun shining upon my sloop, I was free to sail to the next destination. That's when I saw it. The fiery red eyes gazing down upon me from the sky. The Fort of the Damned was active.

Just as I approached the Fort, the black skull looming above burned away. Looks like ol' Graymarrow had met his match once again. Not looking for a fight today, I approached with cannons raised, loaded with firebombs to create makeshift torches and complete the Beachcomber look of my ship, and entered the fort. The other crew hadn't noticed me yet. On a more sinister day this could have been an easy sink, but it couldn't last as the roar of cannons could be heard from the rocky shores below; looks like I'd be needing a new ship.

I yelled out that I was only there for the Hoarders voyage and not for their treasure. The cannons stopped, presumably, as my ship sank beneath the waves and into the murky depths. As I reached the top of the fort, one of the pirates approached me. I readied for the fight to come when he told me that not only had they stopped firing on my ship but had patched the holes that they had made as well! I offered to help load the loot from the fort onto their ship, which they first denied, then gladly accepted, during which one showed me where the next clue was buried.

Once the loot had been loaded and we were about to part ways, the other crew asked if I would like to form an alliance, so I would also be rewarded some gold from their haul. Not one to turn away free gold, I gladly formed an alliance with them. They gave me a blue mermaid gem as a thank you gift, and we parted ways.

Castaway Isle was the destination of the next clue. Despite everything that had already happened, the trip there was smooth and uneventful, while I was notified about the gold I was honoured thanks to my alliance. The clue stated that a couple of unfortunate skeletons would show me the next island, sure enough, off in the hazy distance sat the Reaper's Hideout.

Regardless of the fact that the lower deck of the ship was still filled with water, the chest of rage had decided that it didn't care and kept exploding, ignoring the buckets of water I threw at it and the fact that it was underwater; luckily the water kept the fire out and prevented it from spreading.

I had decided that it was time to part was with the chest that so desperately wanted to burn my ship and sold it and the rest of the loot I was carrying to the Reapers; I'm sure they could deal with its fiery tantrum. As I finished turning in my loot, that's when I heard it, the fire of a cannon. As I ran outside, I was promptly greeted by another pirate, and docking in next to my ship I saw the flag of the Soap Dodgers. It was the crew from the Fort of the Damned.

They had come to sell the remaining loot before exiting the seas. I helped sell off the remaining loot and they asked if I wanted their supplies as their ship scuttled. Not wanting them to go to waste and gathered all the crates and barrels. What they had left me was two level 5 Athena flags, presumably both theirs as they didn't turn them in, and thousands of supplies, a near endless number of cannonballs and planks.

I returned to the voyage and the clue had me search the island for landmarks and tiny notches to locate the next island. They point to Wanderer's Refuge.

As I sailed to Wanderer's Refuge, I heard the roar of the deep as the Crested Queen broke the surface, but the Megalodon was not alone.
With the Queen's Roar, as if a signal, the sky above grew dark, as did the sea below. I watched in horror as lightning cracked, the kraken's massive tentacles ensnared my ship, and the Queen struck. It seemed the seas were going to put my new supplies to the test.
With nothing to do about the storm, I decided the kraken would be the first target as it was holding my ship in place. I bailed and patched my ship, then unloaded many a cannonball into those pesky tentacles until the beast sunk back into the depths, all the while the Crested Queen circled and struck. Unfortunately for her, it was now 1 on 1, despite the storm. After a few more cycles of her circle and strike while I fired my own shots, the queen fell. I gathered the loot I was able to find and finished the journey to Wanderer's Refuge; the storm receding as my trial finished.

Little happened on the isle proper, save for the odd skeleton. However, the clues did point the way to cannon cove. Just as I left the island, I heard the bell toll as a skeleton ship crashed out of the water. Still ready to go after my last encounter with the seas denizens, I quickly emptied a pocket full of cannonballs into the side of the ship and to my surprise, it began to veer away. This hadn't been the first skeleton ship to flee in recent times. Perhaps the skeleton crews were growing tired of being sunk.

Cannon Cove had also been easygoing, with only a few phantoms and tree revealing the way to Rum Runner Isle; which ended up being no more than a simple change of direction that now pointed towards the Hidden Spring Fortress.

There was nothing on a fort while it was inactive, surely this would be another quick stop and go but fate did not have a simple voyage for me, as the Fort rose to life and a burning red skull looked down upon me backed by a black sky, a Fort of Fortune had appeared and another storm had rolled in.

I decided to fight back the fort's skeletons to have peace while I searched for the next clue. It's also not often the seas just hand you a Fort of Fortune like this, which is what the other residents of the sea must have thought as ship after ship appeared at the island, all the ships voting to form an alliance and take down the fort together! With a 4 ship alliance the Fort should have be defeated quickly if not for the fact that it was only raising gold skeletons. The only saving grace was the storm rusting over the skeletons, however it quickly passed and we were on our own for weakening them. Once the skeletons were quelled and the island rested once more, we divided up the treasure and parted ways. I even tried to offload some of my absurd supplies, but none of the crews wanted them. The next clue pointed to an uncharted isle nearby.

I made my way to the uncharted isle where I was sure I had spotted a stowaway, but perhaps the rough seas were playing tricks on my eyes, or perhaps it was the best boy on the seas that had made this island his home. The clue here pointed to Shipwreck Bay.
Despite its name, Shipwreck Bay was the quietest the voyage had been, with nay a skeleton in sight. I located the particular shipwreck that the clue had designated as its landmark and it pointed to the next island, the Crooked Masts.

The trip to the Crooked Masts however wasn't as quiet, as the Hungering One had reared its mighty maw, apparently the megalodons had it out for me, but with the endless supplies I had been gifted, even the hungering one's appetite was no match.

To the top of the Masts I climbed, wondering if this voyage would ever see its end, when I had found it, the final clue and the location of H's final silver key. It pointed to The Sea Dog's Tavern in the very center of the Sea of Thieves.

The final leg of this voyage was at hand, as I sailed past another pirate, no doubt running from the very storm that I now sailed toward and beyond that, my prize that lay somewhere upon the abandon Sea Dog's Tavern.

The storm had passed once I finally docked at the Sea Dog's Tavern. The tavern was built up upon a massive
outcropping with several others around it. The clues brought me to the first 2 outcroppings. While on the second I had to fire out of a cannon directly towards the kraken skull mounted on the main part of the tavern. Next, I had to spy the thing the Gold Hoarders loved most and to its opposite would be the next location, a third outcropping. Once down and across to the third outcropping's dock, the next clue pointed me to the scaffolding on the main tavern, right where I had just come from. H was really testing my patience.

As I made my way up to and across the scaffolding, two ships approached each other from opposite sides of the tavern. One looked new, but another was flying our alliance flag from the Fort of Fortune. The clue lead down to the last outcropping that the two ships had begun fighting in front of. The ships slammed into each other as I watched from my perch above, listening to the roaring laughter of a man that had just sunk both ships. Once both men had departed, I dove down to the dock of the last outcropping, praying that H wasn't about to send me back to the top of the Tavern.

Lo-and-behold, the final clue pointed to the base, and possibly the only bit of sand around the entire mountainous tavern. There, the chest would be buried. I lunged over and dug up the chest. Within was the final silver key to H's mystery.

I rushed to the nearest outpost and handed in the final silver key to the Gold Hoarders. I looked upon the chest. The first 3 silver keys sat within the unlocked main chest and the final key to unlock the smaller chest within. There sat the prize: a golden skull with emerald eyes and a golden keyring with 4 gold keys attached in its mouth.

    The hunt was over.

Or so I had thought, as I was handed one last message from H.

H had intended for the greedy and TWO-FACED Hoarders to find and open the chest themselves. It turns out that the Golden Skull within was cursed for the Gold Hoarders, and had THEY opened it, all of them across the sea would have been stripped of their golden flesh. But in asking for the pirates' help in opening the chest, the curse had been broken.
Vowing that everyone was now within the scope of his wrath, he would retake the now empty throne and we would all fall.

To worship him, just name him as the one who wears the crown...
