There are tons of people on these forums that have always streamed SoT way before someone online told everyone it was okay and cool now to do so.
SoT pretty much never got stream time. It was super cool and trendy to hate on SoT. Just because some random guy told his flock it's okay now... Yeah. No.

Easy acknowledgement, an Easter egg in the new Arena mode. He's a PvPer right? What better way then to have his name etched into a table or post within the arena tavern?
Rare have their way of acknowledging community members that contribute to it, as evidenced by the in-game nods https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/16959/making-our-mark-official-list-of-community-influence
Just playing it probably doesn't cut the mustard, there are plenty of other people that play Sea of Thieves that deserve recognition well before a random person that decides to play when it suits.
If you check the list in the link above, they have mostly been positive members of the community that have actually contributed to it or at least done something notable.
SIDENOTE: This my own opinion and not an official one.
As much as i do enjoy watching Mr 1G's content i feel some of his recent activities have been both a blessing and a curse to the SoT community.
Imo him streaming SoT consistently because he is enjoying the game has given the games popularity a boost both to stream viewers watching as well as streamers themselfs which subsequently has helped in switching the overall viewpoint of the game itself into a somewhat better received one as a whole and grows the SoT community.
This has a flip side too though due to his particular playstyle i have noticed a large influx of players that are purely playing to emulate him which seems to largely consist of
"Log on a server, find ship, sink ship, take loot, sell, jump server, rinse and repeat"
Now is it a valid Piratical tactic and SoT playstyle... sure it is and the content it provides is great to view sure. But to players new and old that be on the constant receiving end of such a playstyle imo that does very little for the SoT community as a whole.
I have a feeling we will see Sum Sum on a SoT Devstream in the not too distant future that i feel would be recognition enough for the time being.

I appreciate his stream in overall. I wish that he wouldn't talk harshly to his opponents and belittle them sometimes (it's not everytime though), SoT can be extremely toxic and I don't think we need new players thinking that's ok to do so (I'm not against a little banter).
In the end, I don't really care if he gets something. I know it must feel bad for streamers that has been doing so from the beginning but I have to agree that Summit brought a lot of hype and visibility around the game (he's not the only one of course but the timing was perfect).
There was a golden age of easter eggs. Where any actions could give you one because the game was totally new and was builded as the players were discovering it. Today I feel that Rare abandonned a bit this idea. I hope we will get to see more easter eggs in the future.

I dont think any streamer should be "sponsored" by the Rare or any developer for playing their games. That's just...to shady.
And while I think Summit1g is at times fun to watch. I dont like what he is contributing to Sea of Thieves. He is a pure PvP player that dont care about anything community driven in the game. And on top of that his language when engaging others in PvP is condescending and rude to the point of being toxic and should be reported by quite a few players I've seen him play with/against.
When you start calling players that are not interested in PvP and that tries their best to escape a player that uses all day just sailing around sinking ships. And he screams in the microphone that they are "PvE bi***es" then we have a problem.
Sadly he is really popular and got allot of viewer by people with the same attitude and play style. I dont think it's adding anything positive to Sea of Thieves. And I hope he and like minded will stick with the Arena mode to be honest.
I think the fact Summit1g is streaming SoT gives a message to Rare that they are improving the game in the right direction (especially for streamers). This is like the whole Ninja thing how he thinks Fortnite owes him something... If you make a game and enhance it to the point where it attracts people to play it I don't think streamers who play it deserves anything... In fact I've watched Summit for a long time and if anything SoT did him a favor with the huge subs and views he's getting. However, Rare can maybe immortalize him in the game perhaps like how they did with some other players already
I enjoy his creativity at times, but he’s one of those double gun insta-killers, which is a bit of a put off to me. Granted, this is something Rare could fix in a heartbeat, but still offputting to see a popular streamer rely on that glitch to succeed - especially one who is so good at PvP and shouldn’t need to make use of a glitch.
I didn't want to react to this at first, but ok.
He does bring new people in, fair enough, but imho his attitude and sometimes behavior, isn't something that should be celebrated. And considering it's Christmas, people get new consoles with free gamepass trial codes and we have winter sales, I'd argue that his impact on player base size isn't as big as some make it to be.
Does he promote the game? Yes. Does he deserve to get something in-game for this? No. There are community members (in here, discord, twitter etc.) and streamers, who did a lot for this game and community and would deserve something much more than he does.
@goatseathumans Why should the forum (which are "we" adressed as "you" in your top) sponsor a person who plays a game he payed for.
@goatseathumans he is an established streamer. Playing the game and earning money from it.
He doesn't do anything specifically special to deserve a specific type of treatment.
Wouldn't be surprised if he would be featured in a weekly stream with the developers as he does hit those criteria based on their previous selections.
Let’s not pretend recognition in the game requires doing something incredible. Players have been recognized:
Some recognized players have greatly contributed to the community or done something noteworthy, and I am not trying to take away from that. I am just saying the criteria for in game recognition is not always that special. With that said, Summit is compensated already for his content by income from viewers.

TBF the issue is on Rare's end. If they had their servers full instead of having empty Seas Summit and other players wouldn't need to jump servers every 30 minutes of sweeping and empty sea.
@shin-hisako This could be the case yes and i would agree that Rare could be doing more than is apparent concerning this issue.
However it also could quite as easily be the case that players choose to no be playing SoT whilst he is streaming due to the general increase of strictly PvP players emulating Summits playstyle for views etc that have started showing up in game enmass the last month or two, thus causing less casual pirates to forgo wanting to sail the seas.
@goatseathumans I think the benefits are mutual. Summits's stream isn't dead anymore and people are buying SoT. If you think summit isn't already making more money by playing this game, just check how many more donations and subs he has. He went from like 16k subs to to 30k in weeks.
He went from 12 k to 60 k viewers with SOT. He should thank SOT also.
Two way street and both are helping each other. He may be on next weeks stream if devs ok it.
Guess they already tossed some dates at him to play. He said he shot back he could on the 8th but devs would have to play with huds off so they dont get sniped. No reply as of yet it sounds like, but everyone has been on vacation.
A lot of folks complaining about his play style and treatment of players but it seems to me that he has really publicized the thief part of sea of thieves which is really really good if RARE continues to give more incentives to pve and exploration like the guilded quests because this will cause obstacles for players that is the big difference from other games. Sail, have fun, watch for other ships and watch on your ship. If people can get lots of loot that is good because other players can steal it which summit has a pretty good tutorial on how to do that. In the past month I have seen people sneaking on my ship, looking at my voyage I laid down, checking my maps, and hiding. It's a much needed element to me. Sorry for the long post, summit should get an Easter egg. Hopefully it is a rock statue of his atlas character with a 1g tattooed on his chest. Fricken hilarious.

Then don’t do it. Is it really that hard to understand why others might enjoy something that you do not? I rarely watch sports because it seems boring, but I don’t feel smug towards those who do enjoy them Most every movie, cartoon, TV show, or online video is someone else doing something that you are not doing.
